Its gotta be something simple but.....

I drove to the store...shut the truck off...go into store for 5 mins...I run out to start the truck and it won't start. Battery is good all lights come on the dash...It won't even turn over. I take it to the dealer the next day and he says I got a bad battery...so he puts one in.....3 days later the truck does the same thing...this time in my driveway. So there it sits....new battery.... all the lights and bells come on when I turn the key....the truck doesn't even turn over. Its like there is something wrong with the computer.

The truck is a 2002 with around 50000 miles.

Any ideas? Obviously I have tried:

1. Jump start from my other truck.

2. Disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting.

3. Turn the key to on and leaving it there for 15 mins to restart security.

4. Pounding on the starter.

5. Kicking the door (well I didn't try that yet but I will now)

Does it click when you got from on to start?

Just the normal noises...I can hear the fuel pump....

If it does click its not the kind of click like the solenoid on the starter is bad.

I wonder if it is a bad ignition switch? Next time it happens you could put a Digital multi meter on the yellow starter wire and see if it puts out +12v.

I assume no alarm, remote start or any kind of starter kill?

Thanks MAx....

SO if I put the meter on the yellow wire is that with the key in the on position or do I need someone in the truck trying to turn it over?

Yes good assumption...no alarm or remote start.

Where is the ignition switch...do you mean where I put the key in>?

The yellow wire is under the dash. I guess you could test it righ at the starter to see if the starter is getting power.

You would have to have someone in the cab to hold it to the start position.

Yes I mean where you put your key in. Well, not the tumbler but the part that the tumbler pushes is on. The actual electrical switch.

Well since I just got the truck..they gave me a 6000 mile 6 month warranty. I obviously bought it used and of course the problem happened when I hit the 6000 mile mark....so to make a long story short they did it under warranty and I just had to pay a $50.00 deductible. Talk about brand loyalty I got a 2001 GMC 3500 Duramax, 2002 GMC Yukon Xl 2500, and a 2003 GMC 3500 Duramax.
