I am getting ready to install the EGT thermocouple.(Attitude) I have done the searches on the forum, and the more I read, the more confusing it is. Not the procedure itself, but where to put the darn thing!. I have seen the "Hoot" method. I also read where someone mounted it drivers side bottom, allowing to drill up, and not get chips, etc in engine. This seems easier, so why does'nt everyone do it this way? There must be a reason, please enlighten me! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave

I posted a couple days ago about drilling mine from the bottom. My thought is as long as that prob/sensor is in the the exhaust gas path flow, I couldn't see what difference it made from what direction it entered from. Its real easy from underneath. Just my 2 cents worth.

Both of mine went into the passenger side, just because it was an easier reach with the well cover off. I looked at the bottom, but for me with the tools I had it was a long reach. Do whatever feels best for you as both locations are good. If you do it from the side leave the engine running and wear eye protection.

Drilling up from below should be fine.

I agree, your choice.

I thought it was a GREAT location on the passenger side once you remove the fender liner. Plenty of room to work and that little flat spot was a good foundation.

I drilled a tiny pilot hole so that when I tapped it all the shavings blew out with the engine running. And they Did blow out so wear glasses!Edited by: 2MuchFun
