If I recall, it is located directly behind the dash console that has the cubbies in it. You would need to remove the seats, and entire center console to get to it. As far as upgradability, I think there may be an aftermarket that would work, but other more knowegeable people would need to answer that. The stock one suck huh, mine too.

There isnt much you can do to the bose system being everything with it is different than a normal factory system. The amps are built into the speakers, as well as the woofer. I ordered my truck with the bose but the factory messed it up and I got the 6 speaker system. I took that out and put JL XR Series in the front, and MB Quart 5 1/4's in the rear door all hooked up to a JL 300X4 amp and Alpine deck with XM reciever built in.

You can add subs to this system, its just knowing how they hook up due to the amps. built into the bose syatem. It can be done however. Any good stereo store can do this.

I wired a sub into my existing Bose setup. Sure helps the bass now. Couldn't hear the factory sub when cruising with the windows down, now I can hear the bass that I want.

I did a write up on how I wired mine in. I spent more time figuring out the right wires than doing the work. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Disapprove.gif You could add a sub behind the rear seat in probably about 90 minutes.

The BOSE speakers in the new GM trucks do NOT have amps built inthem. The amp is buried under the center console, and the sub is right by your feet (think fuel pedal)... If you want to add an aftermarket amp to the truck you would need to get a PAC adapter.

The PAC totally bypassed the BOSE amp and gives you a good clean signal to your new amp. It's what I did...

There is the link to their products.

Good that you cleared that up Stefan. Should also mention that the amp can be upgraded, I think the denali or escalade have it. Personally, if it says bose on it, I run. They spend more money on marketing hype than research and manufacturing combined. The FRAM of the audio world, pure illusion.

The sub is a joke, it must be a 5" driver. Use that oem-1 settup and get 4 clean signals off the factory head, then split 2 of them for rears and subs, here is one I make, behind seat.

use the other 2 for fronts upgrade.

It even has a remote wire for the amp(s). A nice balanced system is easy to appreciate after you have listened to that bose crap for a while.

And don't let anybody sell you a line output converter. It's just going to make a crappy system sound crappy and loud, very dirty. The PAC adapter is $30-40, plug and play, and for that money the best sound improvement you can make, unless you wear a hearing aid.

The Bose amp puts out a left and right subwoofer signal. The driver in the subwoofer has 2 coils. My evaluation of the Bose subwoofer is that it is totally useless.

That was too flattering, if you ask me.

Upgrade by adding an additional amp, and a sub box. Then take the next step, and junk the door speakers as well. If you are like me the Bose was already in the truck, so you had no choice. If not, I guess we should all remember, that no matter the name, factory stereo equip is generally less than what most of us desire (garbage). OBTW, I am scrapping the Bose head unit as well.

Have an 05 and want more bass. Will this PAC work as described above? And is it an easy install? If I understand it correctly, this set up you will be adding a subwoofer (powered) or a sub and amp to the factory set up, correct? If so, that is what I want.

masterp2 - do you sell the boxes and set up for an 05 GMC Sierra Crew Cab?
