Trying to replace rear seal, got all the way to "just pull the hub off" and it only comes about 1/4 inch and then stops against something. I don't want to force it as the DIY session says it will just pull off. Any suggestions??

Snatch the he** out of it... it's a 2 piece seal and will separate, new unit will be in 1 piece and go in as a regular seal. Before reinstalling the hub be sure to pry the inner part of the seal off the hub.
WHOOPS... shoulda said axle stub not hub.

Thanks for the information.
I finally yielded to the stuck hub, and put it all back together so that I could drive it to the dealer the next morning.......arghh!!
They got me right in and in a couple hours called to say it was finished.
When I picked it up, I asked the mechanic what it was hung up on and he told me it was the old seal. He used a 2 foot long screwdriver looking prybar and said the hubs need some help, but will come right off. He laughed and said he wondered why I quit on it, because all of the hard work was done. Anyway, $164.00 in labor wasn't too bad and now I'm ready for the next seal to go.
