What are the dangers of driving with too much engine oil in the engine? The oil level was about a centimetre over the limit on the dipstick.

You can blow the compression rings if the crankcase pressure becomes too great. More than likely you will see oil pushing out of a poorly sealed gasket first.

It sure is easier to take the drainbolt out for a second. but if you use alot of oil it won't make a difference.

Thanks QM, my brother checked it and added a litre right after he turned it off, so it became too high, it had been driven for about 200kms before I checked it. The oil pressure gauge has been fine the whole time, is that the same thing?

That's why I don't want any leaks, crankcase, tranny or gears. Add a little too much oil and you run the risk of making it worse.

The guage on the dash measures oil pressure from the oil pump to the crankcase. It doesn't differentiate between how much volume it sees just pressure.

Ok, thanks, I didn't think they were related but I wasn't sure.
