anyone made an air intake for a 6.5l diesel themselves. i have a 97 suburban and a tahoe and the set up of stock intake seems to be filling my air filter with alot of grease and dirt. anyone have any pictures to share. or know of any good after market system.
thanx

That black molded plastic piece to the front right of the filter cone is an air inlet that no longer goes to the airbox. If you removed it you would improve your flow of cool air to the filter.
I really like your crome piece. I have a spare hood to work with and I want to use something similar through the hood. Is that a 3" mandrelbent pipe?Edited by: quantum mechanic

That should improve airflow. I'm feeling inspired to work on mine.

Im gonna see if I mount them above the opening(inside) so you wont see the light bulbs. Or get some LEDs and do the same.

Won't you get a lot of water in the filter if you drive in the rain?

I dunno...Ill have to see how much h2o can pass through 2 layers of screen.. Maybe put some kind of deflector shield in

I don't know if the water will be an issue or not.
It's not a problem on the big rigs, but they're intercooled.
Don't know if that would be the difference or not.
On the 6.5's we could think of it as a free water misting kithttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Too bad it would only work on cold wet dayshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

I think the biggest problem with the water would be in the filter.
