1. I am curious what some of the reasons you guys have for using BD. Enviromental reasons? Cost reasons? Hobby? Political statement? etc....

2. Do you homebrew or buy at the pumps?

For me personally, I brew because $3 per gallon sucks to pay. I do not do it in anyway, for enviromental purposes. My fuel bill reduction has been substantial.... and its a fun hobby for me. But I do miss burnin Iraqi's finest from time to time, but its nice to be sorta self sufficent.

You can vote for more then 1.
I would have to say I buy form the "pumps" I guess.
Because I just buy SVO and dump it in.
There is no bio diesel for sale in my part of VA.
U.S. farmers > oil bastards

We finally have a reliable source of BD here in the Gainesville area. It is currently $3.25 a gallon, while dino is $3. I am using it at about 20% in truck and tractors.

I run 20% from the pump so my wife doesn't whine every time I back a trailer into the garage that I "stunk up the house."

I run b100 and make it with friends at my shop.
I run b100 in my 2 duramaxes, kubota generators, kioti tractor, reefer truck (cummins) etc...
Costing me around 75 cents per gallon right now....

I homebrew to save money. Boy, there is a pretty heated discusion about this over on tdiclub.com. I sold my honda and bought a Jetta TDI just to run homebrew in. Hmm almost 50 MPG and .75/gal.....best dam comutter car i have ever owned :ro) :ro)

So anyone had any issues with 100% BD? How often do you replace your fuel filters? Where are you getting your oil & is it getting hard to get the stuff for free?

I run tend to run blends of no more than 70%....lately we just got a pump opened up about 8 miles from the house that has B99 for about the same price as D2.

From what I can see after 80k miles good biodiesel will run fine in the truck.

I do want my money helping oil companies/hostile governments..so I try to burn bio but only from known sources.

I voted for 3 of your options. If option #1 would have said, Reduce or eliminate depencancy on foreign oil, I would have voted for it too.

I have been running B100 since May 1.... Love it so far!!

Another reason to use BD is the quiet engine. I don't wake up the neighbors anymore and can even hear my turn signal blinkers. I buy my BD from a co-op, its not home-brew.

I get worse fuel mileage with BD and pay more at the pump, but its worth it because not a dime of my money goes to big oil or the mideast, and I don't contribute to greenhouse gases. I like to say my money goes to midwest farmers and not mideast sheiks. I've changed my filter once but it didn't need it. I think once the dino-diesel gunk is dissolved by the BD the change interval is about the same.

Another reason that makes me want to use BD is to see all the Arabs starve to death when their petrol is no longer needed. When I get back home from this "cradle of civilization" I want to start making my own stuff, so any advice or info would be much appreciated.

Along with the all the other reasons, I raise the soybeans used to make BD. If I'm not using it, what credibility would I have incuraging others to?
