I just bought an 02 and was wondering what everyone thought about used chips. I know they need to be upgraded but how much? Would there be any specific problems that i would run into with a used one? If i am buying a used one what should i make sure the previous owner has done? IS there a certain brand of used chip that is better than another? I am looking at an edge juice and it looks like they have a few problems, but a buddy has one and it has been perfect. Thanks for the help!
I really love the edge when it works. I am waiting on my 5th box and hopefully this will be the final fix. As for a used one I wouldn't spend the money as there have been so many version upgrades that if the one you buy fails you will be out the $$$. Since you have the LB7 I would get the latest version from one of our great vendors here...Jim
If I was going to buy another, I'd go back to older version of the Juice. The current crop are too unpredictable.
Better yet, find something else cheap to tide you over and wait until the guys on this board say "yippee, its fixed". Someday, Edge will get this sorted out, but I don't think they've found the culprit yet.
Lock, what else is good for cheap that will help me out with gas mileage and help me out when towing a 7500LB boat?
When my truck was stock and I was ready for more power, Edge was still known to be reliable and I bought one. Then it quit on me, repeatedly. So I bought a Powerpup to use while Edge fixed the Juice. Knowing what I know now, I'd skip the Juice until its fixed and start with a reasonable tuner like a Hypertech, Bullydog powerpup, or Predator. You can find these in the Dieselplace classifieds from time to time. I was running the Bullydog when my Edge was on the fritz and before I got the Van Aaken box. I'd recommend an EGT gauge to be safe (esp for the predator) Load up the enconomy or towing tune, and have fun!!
Once Edge gets their act together, you can re-sell your programmer or keep it for reading/clearing DTCs, and buy the Juice. The Juice is a great product --- when it works. Especially if you don't want to spend $ upgrading your trans.
