Hey Guys,

I had a 9" CST lift on 38" toyo MT's put on my truck a few months back, and I have been looking into regearing my truck. The places I have called are saying 4.56 gears are the best thing I can put on that will get me closest back to stock. Also, they are saying $1700 for the gears and the service. My truck is a 4WD so it will need work on front/back.

What I want to know is, what advantages besides power will I see from these gears? Is it possible when towing a light load to just turn overdrive off and run at a higher RPM or would that start damaging things? Is the price that I got quoted good?

Thanks for all the help.

I live in Southern California.

i have the setup that you are thinking about getting. 38's and 4.56's. besides power, it will drive better, tow better, get better gas mileage, more fun to drive, better off road especially in sand, easier on the transmission and engine.

when towing a light load you will not need to turn off the overdrive.it will tow and pull just like stock.

that price seems super high to me.depending on the mileage on your truck you will only need the gears and a minimum installation kit.both front and rear should cost under $100 for both of those from randys ring & pinion. new gears were going to cost me $686.00 shipped.so your talking $786.00 in parts for top of the line stuff unless you have alot of miles on your truck.i could be wrong but it seems high to me. me and my uncle did both front and rear in about 3.5 hours. but we had the front diff already out from installing the lift.now that your truck is lifted its much easier to remove the front diff. you should be able to get it done for 1200-1400 max in my opinion

gears are the way to go i ran only 35's for 2 weeks and i hated it. the truck drives so much better with the gears. the price doesn't seem to bad.
