Got a service engine light last night... Took the truck in to the dealer this morning... They said that the turbo was failing and would be replaced http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif ... They said there was a "Bulletin" out on it??... Truck has 5086 miles on it... I'll keep the forum updated........Triffid Edited by: Triffid

Trifid, did the truck begin running poorly?
Did you get to see the service bulletin?

I was a little worried about the new turbo design on the lly when i heard about the change to the varible design. This design i belive is the same as the ford ps 6.0 that has had very many problems.

the reason the ford has problems is due to pilot injection and the tuning behind it. not the turbo.

Is this what I have to look forward to? Another problem?

My friend GTAY who posts here lost his turbo today. Turbo started making a strange noise took to dealer and found out the oil pressure line, going to the turbo that lubricates the bearings, was crushed from the factory. Also went to have computer reflashed and found out his ECM was shot also. His truck only has about 4500 miles.

My truck I ordered is in and no I am not shure I want to pick it up if the new turbo is just going to crap out. This is surprising from GM?

what are the signs that your turbo is dying on the LLY?
What will you hear, feel, see?

As gomax said my truck is getting a new turbo installed as we speak. My truck sounded like there was a Hoover under the hood that turned on at 2000 rpm's and off at 2000 rpm's. Also noticed that the power in upper rpm range was greatly reduced. I hope you all are having better luck with your trucks than I am mine. ECM, ERG Valve, Front end bushings ?, steering shaft, steering gear box, turbo and oil feed line all replaced and truck has 4300 miles on it. I won't tell you how many days it has been in the shop in the last month - don't want to scare anyone. That is not including the engine heating problems I experience when pulling my trailer. This thing must have been built on a Friday late afternoon!

All these things are like any other mass produced item regardless of cost. Some are going to run 300,000 miles with 0 problems and others, generally a small number, are going to be turds and problem prone from the first day. Doesn't matter what make or model. Some get put together with all parts meshing perfectly, some need tweeking and others can't be put into shape no matter what. Over the years I've just had better luck with GM products than with Ford or Chrysler. My son won't touch anything made by GM. Luck of the draw I guess.
