: This is just wrong
NoWake200 05-17-2004, 01:25 PM My Dodge friend emailed me this picture of Diesel rods. Of course he could not sent it without braking my balls about the Duramax I have. The Duramax is on the left, Stroker is the middle, and Cummins is on the right.
Enjoy the picture.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

I told him let take apart the trans and see whos parts are bigger!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif
NoWake200 05-17-2004, 01:30 PM I know the Cummins is going to have a bigger rod. But the Stroker!
It seems to me this picture has been circulating - it is actually a 6.2/6.5 rod - correct me if I'm wrong.
That doesn't mean that the Duramax rod is any bigger however and also it also means you have to subscribe to bigger is always better.
If something is a piece of crap before, just adding more of it doesn't make it any better.

GSXRTURBO1 05-17-2004, 02:02 PM Yep. That is a very old picture, the rod on the left is a 6.2/6.5 rod, not a Duramax rod.
GMC2500HD 05-17-2004, 02:05 PM It is not the size of the rod, it is how you use it and the gears attached to it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
Camstyn 05-17-2004, 02:13 PM Photoshopped too!
Duramax Dually 05-17-2004, 02:16 PM That picture is very very old, saw it some 3 years back. I would suspect the rods to be quite different. The Cummins is a inline while the GM V8.
And like someone said, you have to subscribe that bigger is better...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
Ray403Dmax 05-17-2004, 02:34 PM If it's the old one I recall it also shows the 7.3L PSD not the 6.0L.
NoWake200 05-17-2004, 04:58 PM It is just my Dodge friend always trying to bust my balls. They ask me how is the new El Cameno(spelling) doing.
I am really not worried about the size of my rod that is for sure.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
tbrowne 05-17-2004, 05:07 PM I haven't heard of any rod failures on the Dmax, so they must be plenty strong. It would appear that its the injectors we have to worry about. Edited by: tbrowne
hdmax 05-17-2004, 06:09 PM I have yet to here of an injector problem anywhere other then the internet kind of guys. Not saying there is no problem, just that I don`t think it is that wide spread.
As for the picture, It has been out long before the Duramax, so there is no way those are from the Powerstroke 6.0L.
Hell some Cummins lover may have taken a picture of their rod next to some small engine. Once it gets on the internet, most Dodge owners would take it as gospel regardless.
bob camire 05-17-2004, 08:38 PM i'll start worrying about the rods in my dmax about a million miles later !!bc
Tsckey 05-17-2004, 09:57 PM Since we know that is not a Duramax rod or a current PSD rod, are we sure the remaining one is really from a 5.9 Cummins? Even if it is, high reciprocating mass just means the crank and bearings have to be beefed up to handle it. Bigger isn't always better. Any rumours of Duramax rods breaking? Anybody? Guys are pumping out around 500hp with stock bottom ends. The rest of us probably don't have to worry.

steve stiller 05-17-2004, 10:16 PM looking at the picture, it's seems the other rods would be weaker. looking at the cummins rod, look at the angle and how it pulls/pushes at a angle. i'll take the 90 degree ones any day.

Yes on the 6.5 rod! I've seen a few of those in my time with GM diesels...
patrick 05-18-2004, 12:26 AM even so the d/max block is not as large hence the level of noise. the crankcase is diesined for noise and durability. which also is the reason for the 2 piece oil
pan.
redneck45 05-18-2004, 08:20 AM Sounds like Rod envy to me! Where is Sigmund when you need him?
Mike L. 05-19-2004, 03:53 PM It's not the size of the rod that matters; it's the cute way you get on and off that counts.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
rickles04 05-19-2004, 04:41 PM i was on the tdr page last night for hours looking and the last thing they need to talk about is a stupid rod....... from the way it sounded everywhere i read the ctd motor is underpowered and a fuel guzzler but reliable....the prob is that it comes in a dodge and the truck itself is a pile of junk.....i read that alot of people is having to have the whole rear end replaced, drive shafts, trans out the wazoo and alllllll kinda little other things like the seat belt bell has a mind of its on and sometime the headlights wont come on and radio wont work and air cond compressor wont kick on and blower motor burning up and air bag lights and abs lights and tons of electrical problems....i guess thats what ya get when you use electrical tape to tie wires together
CntrlCalDmax 05-21-2004, 10:26 AM I have nothing to compare it to, but this is a 6.6 rod from my '01.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif
