I am looking at getting a 2003 GMC duramax, because the 6.0L just won 't do it anymore. What kind of MPG's are you duramax guys getting? Stock and modded trucks. Also what should i look for when i am looking for a diesel, currently i am looking at one with 20,000miles for $29,000, and a 40,000miles for $26,900. I mean i know i can talk them down, so those won't be the prices i am going to pay. But what kind of problems should i look for? Any info about the Duramax is appreciated, I have always be a gasoline guy, so i am not to familiar with the diesels.

Thanks Scott

That is actually a fair price if they are LT Crew cabs and in good shape, probably get grand or 2 less out the door. 2 friends with 03's with edge, exhaust, and intake swear they get 22mpg highway at 75mph without a load.

I get 15mpg in town towing a 3.5 ton landscape trailer/and the other half highway driving average speed around 75. Never gotten lower than 15 mpg. The most I have ever gotten was last August on a trip to Bar Harbor Maine I got almost 23 mpg. I have a 6.0 extended cab 4.10 gears. It cant even come close to the mileage of my Dmax. Never mind that my 6.0 is burning enough oil in 1,000 miles to set off the chk engine oil level light.

thanks for the info, Yea i have a 2005 chevy 2500hd ext 6.0L and i know about fuel economy. I will be doing a lot more towing and more driving, so I need a better truck for towing and better gas mileage. The 2 trucks are slt ext cabs.

Also, what should the first mod be? I was thinking of throwing the Banks 6 gun tuner on first, then just go on from there.

Thanks

21 ish on the highway empty running 65. 17.5 mixed mileage 14.5 towing a 4000lb boat mixed with speeds up to 70. Faster you drive over 65, the worse the mileage is. I could get 24+ on flat ground doing 55 before I upsized the tires.
