I think you're get a better answer under the Duramax or 2500 HD forums.

But since you're here. The answer depends on what lubricant you're talking about. For me, I shifting to all synth after 10,000 miles in the engine. My front and rear diff's have been changed to Mobil 1 75W-90 and the Transmission will be power flushed and filled with Transynd this Thursday.

If you want to stick with dino oil, I use Mobil Delvac 1300 for the engine. It's a great dino oil and Wally World sells it for less than $6.00 a gallon.

But you must run a GL-5 synth in the rear differential.

Hey Mac! you want to move this one to the Duramax forum please?

Change diff juice early because the General leaves lots of sh-- in them. I use Mobil Delvac 1 in the engine, Mobil 1 75w-90 in the differential (for now), and Redline Oil Hi-Temp ATF in the Allison.

UPLANDGAME,

Where's my manners...

Welcome to the Forums! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif

Now back on topic. GM recommends that the gear lube be changed out at 5000 miles or 500 miles of towing. (You get the idea on the ratio). That is to get the stuff out of the differentials that was caused by the ring and pinion gears lapping in. Most guys will run either GM's synth. (aka Grape Juice), or Mobil 1, Red Line, Amsoil, etc. in both the front and rear diff's. Of course, if you have 2 wheel drive, forget about the front differential. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

For myself, my oil of choice will be Mobil Delvac 1 when the engine hits 10,000 miles. Shell makes a fine oil and tons of OTR's swear by it. I just am going with Mobil products to be consistent. No real rationale. Once I shift to synth in the engine and run a dual remote bypass oil filter system, I will go to yearly oil changes as 3 gallons of Delvac 1 is not cheap! My truck has to earn it's keep and I take care of her appropriately. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

I think you'll enjoy the information you get here once you get past the fact that these guys' trucks are their children and are treated as such. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
