I'm trying to change the fuel filter on an 05, and the fatter of the two plugs will not budge - what's the trick. Does the top seperate fron the bottom part OR does the bottom part come away from the top par. I know they both come away from each other, but which is the male part, top ot bottom. And what the trick to get them apart.

On the smalle of the one I sqezzed the tab and it came right off, but that top one is killing me.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Yes I feel like a Moron?

On the electrical conection (plug) is a tab that must be released to allow them to come apart.:)

The bottom is your water in fuel sensor, the top has one small plug, this is your bleeder port, the other large one is your primer bulb. Look in your owners manual it will give you pic's. You can do a search here the is a link that gives you step by step instruction, with pictures. Be carefull if you use channel lock plyers on the wif sensor, you will tear up the plastic in a heartbeat. They sell a special tool for this. I personally have not had a problem. The tool is high $. Pm me if you need more info

It's the two wires that come off the bottom of the fuel filter.

I see what I also think is the tab but that *&^*^ is not buggeing. I'm pushing it in with a screw driver and trying to pull them apart at the same time - No luck.

I read the instructions, but they just say pull apart the plugs ( no help )

The one plug came off in a snap by squeezing the plug "tabs" the other is a SOB.

So much for the 15 minute fuel filter change. an hour and counting for me. The $65.00 i slooking pretty good for the stealer about now.

Temps here are around 100 at 8am and going to 115 today

Thanks guys for the help so far. Out I go again to sweat some more....

Update - Thanks all. I had to havemy six year old come out an ddo it fo rme. seriously thanks duramaxdavid for the tip on "only one" once I felt underneath the filter, yep only one wire and that I had already disconnected.

Problem is GM had a cable ti on both ( another wire) and the fuel filter wire, so I figured they both had to come off. But yes only ONE wire.

No problem with clearance through the top. Filler it back up with fuel and she fired right up. Didn't even have to prime it.

Thanks again all. Is this site great or what!

You shouldn't fill the filter before screwing it back on. After lubricating the seal and attaching wire on bottom, then you should use primer bulb to fill it back up. The way you did it (filling before mounting) you are risking pumping the fuel into your injection system without it being filtered. Priming it up the way the manual says to do it, pumps all the fuel through the new filter before it gets to the injection lines.

I used a real big socket and it fit perfectly. Can't tell you the size because that socket was all scarred up on the outside.

I wouldnt dump fuel straight into the filter next time. I know it may be the quick and dirty way...emphasis on the "Dirty" but I wouldnt want unfiltered fuel going thru that inj pump.

Crack the bleeder, pump few dozen times, till fuel comes out the top, tighthen the bleeder, nice clean fuel on the way. Quick and simple enough.
