Has anybody else noticed the pin hole on the trailer hitch elongating?? Has GM done anything about adding some strength to their factory hitch? My pin hole has opened up almost 1/8" front to back in only about 4,000 miles of towing 10,000 lbs. Starting and stopping is really beginning to make a big bang as the hitch moves front and back. Can the hitch be replaced under warranty??

If you replace it, DON'T get another OEM hitch. The kind of hitch they put on the HD series trucks is ridiculous. Who ever came up with the bright idea to put punny little hitches like that on these trucks should be fired. All that being said, I put on a drawtite hitch and love it!

I absoultely agree .... it is ridiculous that GM would put a such light duty hitch on a heavy duty truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif That's why I just bought a Drawtite Class IV Ultra Frame. When I first saw it, I was like damn, this thing is surely HEAVY DUTY! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif No question asked. 10,000# maximum load rating, and 12,000# max. rating with weight disturbising system. Another nice part is that this hitch is in one piece. All the parts are welded together at the factory. This thing is heck solid! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

FYI, the GM factory hitch is rated at only 7500# without weight disturbising system. Towing 10,000# trailer for 4K miles surely is putting on alot of stress. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif Replace it with Drawtite or Reese Class IV hitch.

I replaced my wimpy stocker with a Torklift Superhitch. This bad boy is rated at 15,000# whether weight distributing or not. It is a massive piece of work and requires no drilling on the chev/gm frame.

Torklift Superhitch website (http://www.torklift.com/super_hitch.htm)

It's a dual 2" stacked receiver design which is designed to accept extension bars for trucks with campers but can obviously be used as a plain old hitch with no extensions. I use the 48" extension bar with my camper which lowers the weight rating of course, but extension bars are available in a variety of sizes from 21" to 48".Edited by: dndj

A convert-a-ball coushioned ball mount will also limit a bit of the abuse. It is rated to 10K. However if I was pulling 10k, I'd use a Titan-V or other hitch rated at 15K. I have seen more than one OEM unit crack at the welds.
