Ok, who has owned both an LB7 and LLY? What are your impressions?

Stock power, smoothness, VVT, noise etc. Whatever your impressions are I want to hear them.

Are you happy with the upgrade?

I have a friend who has had an '01, '02, '03, '04 LB7 and now an '04 LLY.

The first three were 2500 4X4 CC SB's, the '04 LB7 was an 2500 Xcab SB, the latest one a 3500 CC Duelly.

Overall he says the LLY is best one he's had, he uses them in his business, typically towing 8-9,000 lbs.

The 3500 LLY is a much heavier truck, and subjectively feels at least as fast as his last one. I've driven it and would say it feels strong, hard for me to tell as I'm always running the juice on my '02. Seems quieter as well, with some turbo whine when you get on it. Again I'm not the best judge, all of his sounded quieter than mine with the 4" exhaust.

Overall he's very happy.

Max Power,

Traded in my '03 Sierra 2500HD Ext Cab, Short Bed for an '04 Sierra 3500 SRW Ext Cab Long Bed. Not really comparing apples tp apples, but.......LLY/Allison seems smoother and quieter. Less than 2000 miles so far, but already getting between 18.5 and 19.5 mpg (calculated & DIC). I love having the 34 gallon tank compared to the 26 gallon, and the OEM 265/75-16 tires means that when I replace them with BFG/AT 265s, no arguing w/ dealer or re-programming required. Don't like the steel wheels compared to the nice alloy wheels on the '03. Other cons - I've owned/leased about 10 full-size GM pickups over the last 12 years. All have had the 6-8 inches of window tint on the upper part of the windshield - my '04 does not. Neither does my friends '04 2500HD. You'd think for $42,000+ they'd include the tinting. Also, all new vehicles don't include the outside door lock on the passenger side - keyless entry is nice, but I camp a lot and the extra lights flashing in the campground isn't always appreciated.

Summary - I made the decision to 'upgrade' to the LLY and haven't regretted it.

I know, but at least you're driving a diesel with decent mileage! My trade in was a 00 Chev 6.0 gasses getting about 10 MPG towing - so we took lot's of 'pitt stops' whether our bladder's were full or not!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

While mileage is decent, the small tank is still a big miss by GM. Its the smallest tank of all the makes out there. My old 6.slow had a 29 gallon tank that would take 32 gallons. I know I spend way too much time filling up this kiddie size 26 gallon tank.

Yep, tank is small, and the lack of window tint at the top of the windshied sucks, in fact mine did not come with the rear windows tinted, wierd but it is an LS, only one on the lot in the color I wanted with the options I wanted and they were dealin! So I had the dealer install the tint (outside vendor) you can't even tell it did,nt come that way!

I never have understood why there is no tint at the top of the windshield. My 2003 F350 was the same way.

My LB7 went into the body shop for two weeks and I borrowed my fathers brand new LLY. I love my truck but the LLY does seem to get off the line much more effortlessly. It also got about 1.5 to 2 mpg better, both trucks being entirely stock. I think the few mods they made on the LLY where good ones.

Thats wierd , i was kinda the opposite. It is quieter except when the pilot injectors kick off then it makes alittle rattle but not bad. I do think the LLY pulls harder but does have some turbo lag in some instances.
