In addition to having Merchant Automotive install a bd turbo, I also had a torsion diff. put in. All I can say is it sure is nice to be able to spin both rear tires. I'm going to get myself into trouble with this thing. It takes very little effort to throw the azz end of the truck out around corners. This unit is very smooth, their is no clunk. With the g80 on my truck, it was about a 1 in a 100 chance of actually spining both tires.

Upon inspection of my g80, it appeared to be in pretty good shape. Their weren't any big chunks of metal or anything at the bottom of the diff. Merchant said it looked to be intact. I don't know why it very rarely locked for me?

Do you mean Torsion diff as in Zexel Torsen? I run a T2R (3.5 to 1 biasing)in my mustang and I can say that it is the most amazing diff i have used. I didn't realize they made those for our trucks. How much did you pay for it?

No, this is just an aam unit like what the dodges use. I think torsion is the right word for it. I just told merchant that I wanted the dodge type unit and he called it a torsion.

This gets me torqued off as well. I ended up getting stuck in a snow drift while ice fishing that my 1/2 5.3 with a locker would laugh at. (and I drive in snow about 6 months out of the year, if not more....)

My 8.1 Avalanche locks up every time as well. Why doesn't the diff's on the Duramax's?

Sorry, I just spelled it the way Merchant had it on my invoice. I blame him:nutkick:.

Whichever way you spell it, this thing is awesome. It works every time, no more one wheel spin. I just hope it lasts, I haven't been very nice to it so far.

Fluid changes seems to be the best thing for a stock G80. My buddy's would be a 50/50 chance of 2 tire fire or 1 legger -:t when mashing it. He brought it in to the dealer (as it was under warranty) who drained and replaced the fluid and now it 2 tire fires like crazy. It's weird because the G80 does not use clutch packs like some other limited slip diffs, but it seems to be affected by dirty/old fluid just the same (or maybe it's the break down in viscosity that affects the mechanical parts of a G80 differently).

After about 6K on my rig I noticed the same thing with mine, switched to mobile 1 synth gear lube in the rear and it's like new.....

FWIW

I had changed the fluid twice in the 50,000 miles I had the truck (bought used). After the second change, during this past winter, the g80 worked well for about 2 weeks. Ever since then, it was a one wheel spinner.

I have a Torsen T2R in my Impala SS. Agree, that thing is absolutely amazing in how it'll just lay down power in a corner!

Haven't pushed the truck enough (yet :) ) to really even need the G80...
