I have a problem with the heater/AC blower on my wife’s ’01 Silverado. The fan will only run on “high”, position 5. If this were on my old ’84 I would know exactly what and where to look. I would look at the resistor located in the air plenum for the blower motor.
My questions are:
1 Does the blower circuit in the ‘01s still use a resistor switched in series with the motor to get the first 4 speeds?
2 If it does still use a resistor, where is it located?
Thanks

If it is a manual system, there is a blower motor resistor in the HVAC housing in front of the pass seat. If it is an automatic system blower speed is control by the HVAC module. Edited by: GMCSID

If you remove the panel under the HVAC housing, it's near the blower motor.

I took the resistor out and had a look at it. True to form, it is a complicated mess. Not a simple thing like in my ’84. It has about 10 wires connected to it. I put it back in and took it to the dealership. It was $127 to fix. I sure am glad I have an extended warranty. With all the stuff I have had fixed in the last year I must be into it for around $1,000 by now!
