Repairs: my truck has been at the dealer for 2 monthes now. it will not start. they started with replacing the IP because it was not holding pressure. They got it hold pressure after that adn found the ECM was not working so they replaced it. now that everything is communicating it is not starting.

Causes: I had water in the tank that got to the engine....it was ALOT of water. of the span of 2 days i took out close to a gallon. the fuel has been tested and there is no water left in it. While all this was going on the truck would not start unless the engine was hot. I used the block heater to get it up to aroudn 125 degrees. one night I left it plugged in and but not connected t the wall. The cord was then struck by lightning.

they have checked all the wiring and fuel and everything seems fine. they have never seen this before much like my oil cooler exploding. if anyone has ideas the dealer is willing to try almost anything to get this running

I don't have anything in the way of technical advise, but I do have a suggestion on your lightning strike.

That is probably covered under the Comprehensive coverage of your truck's insurance policy. Report it to your insurance company and they will investigate and may have resources to help you with that part of the damage.

Good luck,

Bud

i talked to the insurnace company already and they said that they would not do anymore then what the dealer is doing. if they can not get it going then they will step in and make a decision

All i can say is start with small and easy stuff and work your way up you will find somthing eventually if not then i would say electrical Gremlins i had that problem with a Iveco in a Case Combine and ended up getting whole new engine and new brains

I say connect the extension cord back up and hope it gets struck by lightning again.

Lightning strike. OMG, that is gonna fry damn near every happy chip on the engine. FICM, ECM, body computer, and intrument Cluster. Each sensor needs to be tested from the cam position sensor to the MAP. Medium chance the engine harness is toast. Active controls like the EGR, VVT and FPRV all have problems with too much juice.

Good part is that most sensors and actuators will either show dead short or totally open if they are fried. The ECM does that testing too, so it should code.

the ECM was toasted. they pulled it out and it was more then shot. everyhting tests fine. they are at a lose. they are trying everything if this does not work i am going to tell them about lightning and the cord and get the insurance company involved. the guy from the insurnace company siad they might have to total it out if the dealer has been working on ti for this long with no luck

as for testing everything, they reprogramed everything and seemed to test fine and took a reprgram. these guys are just replacing parts at this point

as anyone ever drained the lines from the tank foward. i did they and both myself and them are wondering if there is a air pocket in there.

You will probably really piss of the dealer if you just now tell them about the lightning,(need to know information)
lightning does crazy stuff, we had a 2006 Z71 get towed in with 8,000 miles that got struck by lightning & the guys insurance totaled it out without ever letting us try & repair anything, only 8,000 miles! Basicly like fingers said most of the modules can't recover from the thousands of volts they recieved!

[as anyone ever drained the lines from the tank foward. i did they and both myself and them are wondering if there is a air pocket in there.[/quote]

I have. A buddy filled my truck up with unleaded. Drained the tank and all the lines. Took off fuel filter. Filled truck up with diesel. Used a compressor and blue air into the fuel tank to get diesel thru the lines. I pumped on my primer for awhile with filter off (probably pumped/wasted a gallon). Put new filter on, primed it, and she started right up.

i am thinking more and more it is the lightning and it will never run again. they have tried just about everything now
