Hi all

I need help, I installed the juice box with attitude. I set the trans to no defuel on shifts, but there still seems to be a long pause or maybe a defuel between shifts. I can't really tell if the motor is backing off or if it is the trans. Once the trans shifts to 2nd gear, then the power will break the tires loose another 20 feet or so. The truck pulls hard then the pulling is a lot less while shifting. Is that normal for the box? I'd like it to shift like a older stock trans (TH 400) that will break the tires loose because the motor is reved up and goes into a higher gear. Older automatics trans would chirp the tires as it shifts. Am I asking for something that cannot be done with this piticular trans? The truck is an all stock 2003 except for the juice box. Any help would be appriceated.

Thanks Terry

Well I can't speak from personal experience yet...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

But from all the reading I've done, you need to start saving money for a trans upgrade if you want the Ally to really get with the program, or indeed to even live if you're operating on the upper power levels.

Most here seem to recommend staying at or below the #4 setting while running empty, or the #2 setting with a load on the truck, and a stock transmission. It's normal for the Allison to defuel during shifts to protect itself. The addition of the Juice will require that it re-adapt it's shifting to accomodate the extra power, and that takes a little while of just driving it.

From what I've seen here in the reports, you'll need to consider a Suncoast level three, or the ATS equivalent in order to eliminate the defuel between shifts and have the transmission live.

I'm sure some of the members who've actually worked with this will chime in with more information, but I thought I might get you started with what I've read on the subject.

tewitt1949,

That sounds like my Alli before I upgraded it. With the stock Alli, the J/A will still defuel if it senses slip (even set to no defuel). A built Allison makes a HUGE http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif difference in how it shifts with the J/A vs. stock Allison with J/A.
