Hey Guys, I know there are a lot of questions about the new ULSD that is coming out. Here is a 110 Page document released by the Govt related about the standards, how they make it and why they are shifting over towards ULSD.. I cant beleave all of the problems they will be encountering during this shift to ULSD 1 Gallon of LSD can containimate 100+ gallons of ULSD and they have to sell it as LSD and can no longer have a ULSD lable. Do you think we may be seeing ULSD or LSD grades at the pump??

HSD - High Sulfur Diesel - <= 1000 PPM
LSD - Low Sulfur Diesel - <= 500 PPM
ULSD - Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel - <= 15 PPM

(Note: Lubricants are added during production to keep the same viscosity as LSD and the lubrication properties are supposedly higher than LSD)

How come all the pumps say not to run the current fuel in the new diesels? Does it plug the filters or ???

I read that the new ULSD wont be available until late fall here in CA and maybe not until early spring.

Other diesel peeps say its not that big a deal really.
What are people doing with the new 07 Suburbans etc running around?

07 Suburbans don't have diesels.

the sulfur will contaminate the new particulate filters/traps is what I've heard. We're probably buying ULSD now in most areas but it's not certified as such. The storage tanks, tanker trucks, stations tanks & pumps all have to be completely flushed of any amount of LSD in order to certify the equipment for ULSD.

Whatever 07's you can get your hands on before Jan/07 will not have to comply with the ULSD. Jan/07 however thats when the trouble starts. The '07 model year is also suposedly going to be a small model year with limitted production. Currently about 75% of production vehicles have the duramax in them. I would expect the trend to contnute into 2007. Its about the only thing making GM money besides the GMT-900 body :o:
