I have an '02 2500 that I bought last Sept. When I was underneath it last night I noticed that on the aluminum part of the oil pan toward the front of the motor, not the black metal part the drain plug goes in, that there is what looks to be bondo or fiberglass filler all over the bottom of the pan.
Is this on all Dmax's or did something happen like mayby the precious owner ran over something or worse, it dropped a rod. I can't believe someone would "patch up" a pan with a hole in it rather than replace it.
I also thought maybe it was there to dampen engine noise?

Was on 01 and 02's as part of the "noise" reduction thing Gm was useing to quite down the truck, not on 03 and up ifrc.

That's what I figured was probably the case. Good to know it wasn't some kind of patch-up job.

Yeah I wouldn't try to get it off either, you'd probably damage the pan trying . Besides it's supposed to be on there as we know now.
