Hey Rickles. I was told by the shop foreman at the dealership (B.S. story?) that diesel has "pretty good lubricating properties" They had a Duramax in for injector problems. The crank case was filled with diesel. The owner wanted the engine completely checked over. Engine was disassembled (to some degree) and verified to be good to go. SO I WAS TOLD BY SHOP FOREMAN.
Maybe someone who knows better will chime in. In my own opinion, I wouldn't be convinced.
If you have a diesel shop around you (hwy tractors) go talk to them. They should give you an honest answer. THEY have nothing to loose, by answering you honestly.

Diesel Fuel will dilute the oil ... This will cause extremely poor lubrication to moving parts ...

Catastrophic failure may occur .....

no, diesel will thin out but the fuel will lub the bearings not forever but it will.I have had many crankcases full and never any damage.while the engine is running the excess fuel will pour out the crank case breather and once I saw it shoot out the oil fill neck.
thes will hydrolock when the case is full and shut down.
still with a hydrolock the rods will not move you could bend one but doubtfull. but you could burn up a starter
trying to crank it over. but no damage will be done if the oil thins out. the crank case will be nice and clean.
