: ABS/Brake warning light is it the gears and tires?
B-rad 07-10-2006, 06:33 PM So i have driven right at 4400 miles on this lift, tires, gears, etc. now all of a sudden im getting a ABS light and brake light after about 2-4 miles of driving. and the lights go off everytime i turn off the truck and come back on every timei turn it back on and drive. i cant read the code with the predator because the light goes off everytime its turned off.
anybody have an idea whats going on? i have the predator set of 3.73 gears with 265/75/16 tires to offset the slight difference in gear/tire. so the truck doesnt know i have the 4.56 gears right? is it the gears causing the trouble?
66flh 07-10-2006, 06:34 PM Have you had it in 4x4 lately?

i am having that same problem with my truck when i did the straight axle. for me i think it is because of not having the ABS sensors hooked up but i don't really know. i also have gears.
B-rad 07-10-2006, 07:10 PM Have you had it in 4x4 lately?
nope. i havent had it in 4 wheel drive since right after i lifted it. i am having the front drive shaft worked on. its been 6 weeks or so since it was in 4x4 mode.
i wonder if a wheel speed sensor or something has gone bad. because it has not come on for the whole time ive had the lift on.4400 miles. but the light goes off after the key is turned off

i think it does have some thing to do with the ABS sensors on the wheels. my be one of yours when bad or check the conections.
moore87 07-10-2006, 08:02 PM make sure one of the abs cables didnt get caught in the tire or pinched by the wheel. happened to me. ~$40 at the dealer for a new cable if that is the problem....

my tire rubbed the wire rawl and mine came on.....look at both front ABS wires carefully to see if any wires are bare
Polarbear 07-10-2006, 08:20 PM Do you get a SBS light in the dic as well? Occassionaly my truck give me the lights and SBS message... Chevy put out some bulletin saying that do to extra power it takes to turn a diesel over that sometimes there enough power to support the systems upon startup and thus sets it off. Ive taken mine to dealer before when it does it, but theyve never come up w/any codes...
Mines only done it when i start it up, which would tend to agree w/the bulletin thats there not enouh juice to power it, tho it sounds weak.. If your getting the message while actually driving, that would tend to make me thing it might be a bad sensor.... Seems like there was something posted a ways back about bigger tires, cranked bars/lift could cause the wires for the sensors to rub through and cause this.... Do a search over in the driveline section, you should be able to find some info...good luck
Edit-Looks like hardcore and moore beat me to rubbed wire issue...
B-rad 07-10-2006, 08:54 PM yes i am getting the "service brake system" on the dic. i checked the wires and they are good.
freyguy 07-11-2006, 09:39 AM Mine comes on a good bit, but not all of the time. My computer is programmed for my tires, and I have my factory 4.10's. When I took off my front two 37's and put on my old 285's, the light never would come on. As soon as I put back on the 37's, it was right back on. I read a little bit about the ABS computer needing to be reprogrammed for bigger tires because it knows they are spinning faster than normal. I haven't been able to get a good straight answer, and everytime I ask, I get the "Do a search!" responses. I can't find anything in my searches. Good luck, but you get used to the lights pretty quick.
66flh 07-11-2006, 09:56 AM I know that mine has come on several times after 4 wheeling and spinning tires in 4x4.Tech at dealer said it was due to wheels spinning at different speeds.
B-rad 07-13-2006, 01:00 PM interesting find. did some experiments. still getting lights on every startup after 2-3 miles so i decided to load the stock program back in and this is what happened
loaded the factory program back in the truck.no lights.
loaded the tow/40 in. lights, chimes, dic message after 3 miles.
loaded the 65/economy. no lights.
85. no lights.
40 again.lights in 2 miles.
factory again. no lights.
40.thought i had it fixed but lights after 7 miles.
65. no lights.
it will only give me the lights, chime, and dic message on 40/tow tune. can someone explain that one?
Brandon1320 07-14-2006, 05:38 PM My ABS lights come on almost every time I drive my truck with 38's. When I was using my PPE programer to change tire size A warning came up saying that the ABS light might come on when adjusting tire size taller than 35's. Sure enough the lights came on within a mile.
lxh0318 08-26-2006, 01:59 PM Sorry to bring back old threads but has any one found a fix to this ???
B-rad 08-27-2006, 03:53 PM i have found that when i load a tune with the predator i have to go into the "modify parameters" every single time and re-enter all the tire and gear info and load that separate after i load the tune itself. also i have the parameters set at 3.73 gear and 265/75/16 tires for the correct ratio. if you enter 4.56 and 38 or 40 tires you will get the abs/brake light almost immediately everytime. i switch tunes alot. probably twice a week so i have done this alot
nelsduramax 08-28-2006, 12:35 AM What I have found is that if I run my hypertech at a 35" tire, the ABS light does not come on at all. If I run it at a 36" tire, the ABS light only comes on at about 20 min of driving above 70 mph. If I set it at 37" tire, then the light comes on at about 5 min of driving above 70 mph.
I just set they hypertech at a 35" tire and live with the slightly off speedo.

I'll start playing with my tuner and see if I can fix it.
TNTPerformance 08-29-2006, 12:52 AM You guys need to program for the gears only and not the tire size, the gears correct the speedo for the larger tires, however on gm trucks the abs speed signal for the rear tires is driven off the transfercase/transmission output and not the rear axle, so the ebcm sees 2 different speeds, because the front wheel speed signal is from the hub, not the front drive line, it sets dtc from seeing 2 different wheel speeds, programming only for gear ratio change corrects this.
lxh0318 10-10-2006, 06:13 PM Has anyone used an Edge w/ attitude to fix this??
B-rad 10-10-2006, 07:26 PM they dont correct for speedo to my knowledge
lxh0318 10-11-2006, 12:06 AM You can adjust tire size but not gears. Also it asks for circumfrence not height as far as I know.
jdugie123 12-25-2006, 02:13 PM hey guys sorry to bring this back up but as anyone tried to put the 35" tires and then just got a superlift true speed box and seen if that works
jasonmpt 12-26-2006, 12:00 AM Wow, I have to say guys that I am glad that I am not the only one going through this problem. I have the Predator too and have had nothing but problems with the ABS/Brake lights coming on since I recalibrated my speedo for my 37s. I have the stock gears (3.73) for now so I can't dial in the gear ratio difference. I have been told by others on this forum that a Tech 2 programmer can recalibrate the speedos in our trucks but haven't been able to find anyone that either knows how to actually do the recalibration or wants to. I haven't (yet) tried reducing the tire size at or below 35in to see if that makes the lights stay off. If I have 37s and my stock gear ratio is 3.73 what is my actual ratio at the wheels? Can I reprogram my computer for smaller gears assuming that my final gear ratio at the wheels is smaller with my set up? And could this possibly get rid of the light problem? You know, it the lights don't bug me it's the damn chime going off 20 something times that drives me nuts, also knowing that I don't have ABS when this light is tripped.
Duramaxed06 12-26-2006, 12:47 AM I've just begun to mess with EFI live but to my knowledge it can either correct the problem via gear ratio/tires, or you can just block that code from ever coming up again.. just a thought.
jdugie123 12-26-2006, 09:48 AM that is what i was hoping i was waiting for someone to chime in about that on efilive because i was thinking of going to it in the spring the chimes don't bother me because i have a aftermarket head unit and didn't add the speaker for the chimes they just get irritating
McRat 12-27-2006, 03:49 PM You need a Tech2 to correct the ABS computer, and someone who knows how to use it.
Pat
lxh0318 12-27-2006, 03:54 PM Try setting it to 35" tires and stock gears.

That is only a correction for the Attitude monitor. It cannot change the ECM or speedo.
mfbarnes 03-04-2007, 08:34 PM My ABS light only comes on and chimes when I turn left, go figure.
jschmid 03-10-2007, 11:07 AM Pardon my ignorance, but does the Superchip Flashpaq 2805 allow you to adjust for new gears or just for tire size?
