I'm looking at getting a different gear set for my truck. I want to go with a 4.10:1 ratio from the stock 3.73:1. I'd like to go with 4:30:1 but I don't think they make it for my truck, and 4:56:1 is too low for me. Can anyone tell me who makes (eg. Dana) the axles for our trucks and what size the gears are? As far as I've figured out we run 11.5" gears is that correct?

Second question, this is more for the real off-roaders, but what are the chances of getting an automatic locker in the front like in the rear? Would this work or would it be detrimental to my front-end's health?

All advice is appreciated!!

American Axle makes them, http://www.aam.com/ they make the 11.5" rear with 4.10s for the Dodge but it may be different enough so you cannot use those gears, they may make 4.10s for the GM version they should be able to tell you.

I think the front is 9.25", and an Eaton e-locker would work great. You can have it fully open on the street, and fully locked up on the trail with just the push of a button.

The 8.1's come with 4.10's as an optional gear choice in the 11.5" rear, so they are available for sure.

I know I can get the 4.10's from the dealer, but I'm looking at gettting something from an aftermarket dealer and just wanted to be sure I was getting the right size. Can anyone else back up Amric woth the front being 9.5"? I want to be 110% sure I have the right sizes before I order parts.

Thanks for the info so far guys!!!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

That's 9.25 not 9.5. Someone confirm.

<DIV>You can probably figure this....</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>You have two choices for a push button type locker for the front the Eaton e-locker and the ARB (air actuated). Remember that both lock up 100% percent like a spool so they are for off-road use only...unless you are interested in finding the weakest link in your drive train, remembering that the front diff is cast aluminum and the axles and cv's and u-joints are not exactly super high strength units. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Some folks don't like the ARB because of (potential) air leaks, but this can be solved with smart engineering and installation for the most part. With the ARB you have the added benefit of an on board air compressor. You can even rig up a tank and with a good enough pump have enough air to run tools. ARB is popular with off roaders from extreme rock crawlers to weekend warriors. Eaton makes all kinds of stuff and the e-locker is a proven product. Both good stuff.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I'm curious as to why I don't see more gear changes listed in peoples' sigs with all of their mods. A gear change is a very smart thing, IMO. As the tire size goes up so should the gear ratio, naturally.</DIV>

Zorganov front axle is an AAM 9.25" and rear is the AAM 11.5". Gears are available in 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 4.88 and I believe 5.13. 4.10s would be better than the factory 3.73s but 4.56s would put you closer to stock. Eaton makes a front electronic locker but I haven't hear much on it. I'm not sure if it would hurt the front end at all as the CVs tend to act as a "fuse".
