I am impressed with the numbers so far, they should get a little better after about 10K. Solid truck!

Mine is getting the same at 18mpg with 450 miles on it. I'm happy i got rid of the Nissan Titan 4x4 now. I was only getting 12 to 13 mpg in it.

First Tank ---- Didn't have the patience to let it get down to low. All around town and I was @ 16.1 handcalculated. 2500HD w/LBZ

1st tankfull 21, 2nd tankfull 19. All highway. 1st was varied lower speeds 55-65 mph. 2nd was 60-75 mph varied. Never got over 16 with the '05 LLY for 1st 10k miles... best ever was 18.5 after 30k miles. I'm impressed!

Stop bragging - jerks.

Just kidding. But seriously, I only got 13.6 on my first tank and I was really trying to baby it. Very underwhelming. Anyone know why there is such a variation between trucks. I know driving style is huge, but I was not punching it at all really trying to get my mileage up. There is no way my driving could have dropped me that much compared to what some others are getting.

That's not making any sense to me. With the LLYs most everyone could count on getting nearly the same mileage at any given point during break in. Depending on your foot of course...

It's true though. I am at 5400 miles right now and have a solid 14.3 average. it really sucks. I wasn't expecting to be on par with an econobox, but I was expecting better than this.

I live in North Texas and most of the driving has no up hill grades to speak of, Not to mention, 60 MPH is the norm and not the exception during most of your travel in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Geography has a lot to do with it. To get 18.0 MPG average, I really "babied" her for the first 500 miles. I'm seeing about 16.5 when I open her up a bit on the highway. This is a heavy truck! To get this kind of performance and grunt, you have to put some fuel to it! You can always slow down and expect the MPG to rise.

My first 54 miles was just highway and I was at 21.7 all at 50~65mph mostly 55mph. Country roads with stops I am at 14.3. On the freeway doing 75 I am getting 17.3. Crew Cab 2wheel drive. I t seems once I break 65mph the fuel milage goes down fast but, right at the same that I recieved with my 5.3L Chevy extra cab. I haven't towed get, I am still breaking in but, the 5.3L was right at 11mpg towing 7,200.

I live in Denver, C0 and have 1500 miles on my 2500 '06 LLY Crew Cab 4x4. I am avg 18-20 on the interstate and that was including a trip up to the top of mount evans @ 14,280 feet. (on that Tank I got 18mpg). Not sure why the difference in Mileage!?!?

With the people that are getting really crappy mileage (<15mpg) by chance did you let it sit there and idle for more than 5-10 mins when you first got it on a regular basis and had less than 500 miles on the motor?? and how many miles were on there before you got the truck? I have a theory that could be a possibility?

Also, since I have been running my truck i have only put in that Expensive @$$ Shell Diesel @ $2.95 a gallon. Could the fuel be a contributing factor as well?

That Sounds Great ! I Have 18k On My 2005 And In Warm Weather Average Abt 19 Mpg Mixed Driving.. Had 1200 Miles On The Meter Before I Refilled The Tanks..
My Best Milage Is At 60 To 65 Mph.. A Little Slow But Money In My Pocket In The Long Run..

I have 600 miles and the DIC shows 14.3mpg. I purchased the vehicle with 237 miles on the odometer. Vehicle was dealer swap from Sault St. Marie, MI down to Linwood, MI. MapPoint shows 226 miles between the two dealerships. Vehicle was driven by retired guys who move vehicles between dealerships. I would assume the guy who drove probably ran the same RPM for 200 miles. Who knows, maybe this is why I'm seeing 14mpg. Can't say I'm pleased, dealer told me some are getting 21mpg. I can't believe the mileage could be as much as 50% better.

When I refuel next, I'll run a manual check to see where I'm at. I can't believe the numbers some of you reported. I believe it, can't belive I'm nowhere even close.

I hear you. I only wish I was getting the mileage some of these guys are. Just as a fact check, here is where I am at:

Last fill-ip: 5325 miles
Number of fill-ups: 19
average over fill-ups: 14.5 mpg (all hand calculated)

I got my truck with ~40 miles on it, so I am the one that broke it in. It was mostly back roads with varying speed mixed with freeway driving.

My windshield wiper fluid system stopped working so it goes in next week. I asked the diesel mechanic to look at the truck to see what he thinks. I keep hoping something is wrong with the truck and I'll magically get better mileage once it is fixed. Not holding my breath.

PS. I use the truck for mostly commuting, 19 miles each way on the highway. Total straight shot. On the weekends I will drive around town a bit or on the backroads. Every couple of weeks I'll tow the our boat (~4000 lbs) about 20 miles to the river or lake.

Good luck!
