I picked up a new winch for my car trailer. Do you guys wire the winch in with the truck or just run a seprate battery? I have an extra deep cycle battery bout dont really want to keep it on the trailer.
thanks

I just keep a seperate battery for my winch so I can use it anywhere besides just on the trailer if your mounting to the trailer permantly I would just wire it up hope this helps.

You can do it either way. If you add a batt to the trailer, be sure to use the 7-way trailer plug on your truck (pos and neg terminals)to charge the batt while towing around, like travel trailers do. Or just add the quick dissconnects to the truck and winch. Make sure you have a big enough wire comming off of the batt positive and tag the negative to the frame rail somewhere in the rear of the truck.
To me, useing an extra battery on the trailer adds one more thing you will have to maintain regularly unless you are always useing the trailer. If you go with the connections on the truck, fab up some extra quick dissconnect cables; one end quick disconnect to winch, other end jumper cable ends. Then your winch can be used by any truck, not just yours.

I think im going to mount the battery, That way if someone uses the trailer or if im using it with another truck the winch still works... thanks
