Howdy guys, I want to order an exhaust system, but I am a bit confused. I want a full stainless system, I guess thats whats called a turbo back system? Is that what MBRP calls a front pipe back system? Or, do you have to order a front pipe separate? And what about the cat on that system? Is it scraped? If so, does the kit allow you to easily swap the cat back in, or do you have to buy a separate cat delete pipe? Thanks!

That is the Turbo down pipe back system. It deletes the cat and yes you can swap the cat in and out if you need to.

If you want to put your cat back on you will have to order the catback system and get the cat-delete pipe.

CrazyAggie05,

Road Boss is correct, if you are ever looking to put your cat back in you will need to order a cat back set up and then the front pipe seperately. The off road system S6004409 that you were looking at deletes your cat completely. If you have a 06 EC/CC you would need a S6012409 plus a GMS9421 front pipe. Hope this helps you out.

Awesome, thats exactly what I needed to know! Thanks!

aggie- What you are looking for is a S6000 series exhaust and the front-pipe GMS9401. This will allow you to swap the cat in and out. Check our website for more info and pricing.

CrazyAggie05,

You have some options based on what you need/want to do. You can get a cat back system, most folks get this as it gets you 80-85% of the benefits of a front pipe back system and leaves the cat alone. A front pipe back system includes the front pipe that currently has your cat in it. With MBRP you can get an cat back, add the front pipe so that you can bolt your stock cat in and out when you want or you can get an off road system that will not have any "easy" provision to bolt the cat in at all. Most all the systems are available in aluminized, 409 and 304 stainless and also in duals etc.

I know this is probably still sort of confusing as the Duramax is a little different exhaust wise as compared to the other brands, if so call us and we'll do our best to explain it for you.

OK, so if I am reading this correctly, the "front pipe" and the "cat delete pipe" are the same thing?
Please excuse my newbie-ness but there is a lot of terminology that is new to me and MBRP's site doesn't use the term "cat delete" that I can find.
Thanks

Are any of the pieces the same for a longbed vs. shortbed, crew vs. std.?

MrWithasee,

You are correct, the front pipe is a "cat delete pipe"

Fltntodd,

I think you are asking if the front pipe is the same for the different lenght trucks and the answer is yes. Only the mid pipe changes for the different lenghts C/C, longbox, shortbox, etc.

MrWithasee,

Yes those terms can be interchanged, we don't use it here at DPPI as it is confusing for the average pwner to understand when you're talking about turbo back cat back etc. The Duramax is just a different animal when you're talking about exhaust systems as compared to the Ford or Dodge diesels.

Bottom line is there are cat back systems that bolt on after the cat, then you can get a front pipe back system that includes a pipe that takes the place of the cat. The reason we don't call it turbo back is because you woudl think you were getting a system that bolts onto the turbo and you don't get that. The first section of pipe that we can sell you bolts onto the pipe that is bolted to the turbo. It's called the front pipe, therby front pipe back system.

It's easy to get confused, call us and we'll un do the mystery if you want.

Thanks Mark. I will call you.
Trying to get in touch with MBRP is not easy b/c their site still appears to be under construction. Its a good thing there is this forum with other enthusiasts who have already been there and done that.

The phone number was a biggie that I couldn't find. (Oops, found it) The front pipe question was addressed well here. I will PM you with the other questions. Thanks.

Well, I got the cat-back part of the system on today; I counld't get the front pipe on because the base auto hobby shop closes at six :banghead:

Hopefully I can get the front pipe on tomrrow or Sunday! So far I am impressed with everything. This was my first DIY exhuast job and it was a pain in the *** doing it myself lol. The stock system is pretty damn heavy and handling it is rather awkward! It's pretty quiet, but has a much deeper note than stock. However, it sounds like it has alredy gotten a little bit louder after driving around the runway a few times :ro) I have not romped on it yet to see what it sounds like wot since the speed limit here is 25mph, but I will this weekend!

Anyways, before I go I have a quick question. I got one of those snazzy double walled angle cut tips, but it sticks out so damn far! Did I install the tail pipe wrong, or are you expected to have to cut some of the tail pipe off? I know it sounds like a stupid question, but hell I'm no exhaust tech....

CrazyAggie05,

No you didn't install anything wrong. The tails are designed to come out to the factory location. Just find out where the tip soots you best and cut the pipe there and install your tip. We built them like this because some people don't want to put tips on and some do.

Well I finally got 'er done on Friday and wow this setup kicks ***! I love the deep powerful tone, and holy smokes the turbo sounds amazing. I got the tip installed so now it looks great to boot. Thanks for all the help ya'll!

Hey I also wanted to ask about getting the cat out and in easily. I had a helluva time getting the stock cat/front pipe out. That cat is freakin huge! I had to unbolt the plate that holds the chunk of rubber for the front pipe hanger and then the cat would come out with come coaxing. Is there an easier way? It would be nice to have an easier way for inspections!

Has it set any codes yet? I'm thinking of getting that kit for mine and don't have the cash for the Egr and fingers kit yet. Just like to know so I wont freak out if it happens.
