What is the best chip or power programmer for the 6.6 Duramax Diesel with the Allison 5sp auto transmission. I would like to have more horsepower for towing heavy loads 18,000 to 30,000 lbs about twice a month but would like better fuel economy the rest of the time. I get 16 mpg max now. I have heard of Banks six gun, TTS powersystem, Edge Juice with Attitude, Powerpup, and Diablo Predator, and Predator by Dr. Performance. I read the factory sites and Banks Six Gun sounded the safeest to use without damaging the engine. Then I saw some negatives on Diablo Predator and Predator. I like the built in diagostics of the Diable Predator. Juice with Attitude is harder to install and take off when you go in for service but has a lot of nice features. I don't need or want maximum power. What do you all think is the best one to use especially for gas mileage increase?

My opinion for what its worth is the Attitude,Very nice piece,Only thing hard about it is the egt probe. But the nice feature about it for pulling trailers is the high egt backdown option that will save your engine from meltdown, But I may be one sided because I have one,and like it, I am sure that other people on this forum would agree and also disagree, Good Luck on your decision. As far as Miliage increase I cannot comment because mine doesnt get any better than 16mpg period no matter how I drivehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Welcome, you did a great job describing your expectations and goals now how about updating your sig so we know the exact configuration or your truck?

If you have an LB7 I recommend the juice, just don't expect better fuel mileage, especially the first week or so!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I hate to break the news! But nothing will help the gas mileage short of getting rid of the diesel truck and buying an gas truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif

When you say 30,000# I hope that is total CVW and not just the trailer. Even if that is truck and trailer you are 7,000+ over the limit. I would be fixing the brakes then taking care of the power.

With those wieghts the number one thing you need after the brakes is gauges! Even with stock power the exhaust gas temps will get up there if you pull any hills at all.

Once the brakes and gauges are fixed then get yourself the Quad Stealth 110 or 135 and us the 50 or 70 setting with those 30,000# loads. That will get you the easiest power for pulling large loads.

If you want gauges/power in one package get the Edge Juice/Attitude 125 Just plan on using no more then 70 horsepower setting regardless how you go on the power addons.

In my opinion the Predator is good for one thing, A paper weight!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif No; it is good for on board monitoring and nothing more. I know they are down to $395 but for a toy that marries to the truck the first time anything other then monitoring is used, that is pretty high. I have one, and do not like it in the least. I now use it for times that the Stealth may not clear a code.

For fixing fuel mileage, always wear sneakers instead of work bootshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Those damn work boot tend to push your right foot to and some times through the floor in turn killing the fuel mileage.

Don`t count on any (That`s right; any) power add ons to help fuel mileage. (Claims are just that! Claims)

Also get an cold air intake. And even an exhaust may help, (Depending on the muffler more then the exhaust) but the cold air intake will help for sure.

Hope this helps a little!

Some (many actually) use MPG claims to sell product. I really do not subscribe to this at this point as it varies too much with use/abuse. I say "chip it" for power and any MPG gains through increased efficiency are a fringe benefit.

I've had people claim that "chipped" they dropped 2mpg towing, BUT they also ran 5-10mph faster overall, and charged up hills like they were empty.

I had a gut try a PSD Juice in search of mpg. Took it off and brought it back claiming it only got 9mpg around the conuntry side whereas before it got 15 on a trip to Chicago. The power was great he said. He blew away a Duramax towing (both of them) a stock trailer from the stock yards. Before he knew it, he was doing 90mph with the trailer behind. Wnonder where the mpg went?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Pulling heavy loads, first choice would be the six-gun with speedloader. I still believe it's got the "edge" on the EDGE because of the way the tranny slip is detected.

Juice with Attitude!

No cutting wires or waiting for a tuner to upload. Just plug and play!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I would get a Juice w/ attitude and don't run it above level 2. if you don't want gauges, use edge's EGT probe and all you'll have to look at is the attitude monitor.

I would stay away from Quad or Diablosport products as I think they both are only good for paperweights. Neither certrainly would hold up to a good towing box because they both have ZERO tranny protection. at least edge, va, tts, and some others have that feature.

I have had my Edge Juice/Attitude for nearly a year now and it has worked flawlessly, great performance and has not hurt the overall economy of my truck. The addition of the exhaust and intake has really helped on the lower HP settings. Great throttle response on level 1 and 2 for towing.
