Anyone notice their fan clutch coming on first drive in the AM. Mine kicks in occasionally when I first run her in the morning. It stays engaged for about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile down the road.
This normal???
Don't know if it's "normal" or not, but mine does it too.

the new pully is smaller to allow the fan to spin faster
are you an ex lb7 owner and hearing a difference.

This may sound stupid but shut the AC off before you shut the truck off for the evening and see if the fan clutch still comes on in the morning. I have noticed exactly what you guys have and have been experimenting. It makes no sense, but my fan clutch only goes into full pitch on mornings that I left the AC on.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif This morning was the second day in a row I shut it off(same temp 58 deg) and no noise. Why?

Mike,
I haven't thought of that one, but I've not been able to correlate anything with why it only does it occasionally.
I'll try it...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Great idea. I'll try it and see what happens. It does seem to be very intermintent, so maybe this is the trick???

Mine does it here in AZ, with the AC on or off. Always every morning. It seems to be on an awful lot, I wish we could figure out a way to get electric fans, or at least a way to prolong clutch engagement

No different than any other viscous coupling clutch fan used in the last 30 some years. The fluid is thick until it warms up to temp.
