: should i buy an 06 without the emissions crap? PLEASE HELP
STOCKDIESEL 07-02-2006, 04:07 PM Im looking to buy a new lbz to replace my lb7. I have heard many rumers but can anyone clarify if the 07 clasics will have the emissions junk. basically I want some imput regarding 06 vs 07. Please let me know because there are few 06 left around here and I need to know if i should go buy one this week. thanks in advance. btw my 04 lb7 crew cab is for sale:help:
towdog333 07-02-2006, 04:20 PM From what I hear next yr 07 they will have extra emissions on the engine, it will cost more and your MPG will drop cause of this junk:(
vietvet66-67 07-02-2006, 06:06 PM New emissions start jan. 1, 2007. After that date they will add a particulate
trape after the cat. Up to then it will be the same as 06.
TTA89 07-02-2006, 06:20 PM Its all rumor... Now way is GM going to release an inferior product. They already have a bunch of emissions "junk" CAT, EGR etc etc.
The new emissions will start with the 2007 Model year, so some time around Sept 06 you'll see it start showing up, not Jan 1st. If you're not in a rush I'd wait a see what's coming out.
More power, More features... :ro)
dozerboy 07-02-2006, 06:33 PM It has been said that the first 1/2 of 07 trucks will be just like the 06, I got a 06 to avoid emissions myself.
SleeperTRK 07-03-2006, 01:16 AM I got a 06 to avoid emissions myself.
:exactly: X2
trapman 07-03-2006, 09:21 AM I bought on 06 to avoid the 07 increase in price due to the emissions
deadfurrow 07-04-2006, 04:05 AM If you can believe this AutoWeek (http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060616/FREE/60614007&SearchID=73249610542020) article, you'll probably want to get an '06 or early '07.
"The particulate filter and oxidizing catalytic converter, for example, could add at least $3,000 to the cost of building the truck."
pofarmboy 07-04-2006, 07:43 AM I would get the 06. All of them are gonna struggle with the 07's (Just my opinion). Let them get all the bugs worked out first.
mgraveman 07-04-2006, 08:31 AM The other thing I've seen is that there's no fuel anywhere for the '07. Nearest place is 300 miles away from me, accdordign to the epa website. You can run the 06 on old or new fuel, but the 07 has to be run on new fuel only.
Duromax04 07-04-2006, 11:20 AM Stick with the LB7. Easy to work on, and 0 emissions junk. The 06 has the EGR, PCV, and converter. LB7 has none of that. Plus it has a reliable waste gate turbo. Not the junk VVT
lakingslayer 07-04-2006, 12:28 PM Go '06 and get the GM 0% financing unless you plan on paying cash.
STOCKDIESEL 07-04-2006, 02:31 PM thanks for the help. From what you guys have said it sounds like the trucks built before jan 1 2007 will be the same as before? Should I pick up an early 07 or no? Im still a litlle confused
Minn-Kota 07-08-2006, 12:40 AM Go '06 and get the GM 0% financing unless you plan on paying cash.
:agreed:
Mr. D 07-08-2006, 03:40 AM The guy who knows at my local dealership says the '07's are going to have a lot more emissions junk on them and the price will be substantially higher!

ski bum 07-08-2006, 10:41 AM I bought an 06 just to be safe.....;)
Don't want all that crap on my rig.
Take care
Mike
Frotax 07-30-2006, 03:36 AM I'm being told the 07 Classic is just an 06. The true 07 with the smog stuff will come on the new body style 07.
True?
howard_m18 07-30-2006, 10:46 AM That is true!! The new truck woill come out in Feb. of 2007 & they will be on the NEW 2007 "900" PLATFORM. They will have the NEW emissions & will cost from $1,500 - $3,500 more. The trucks being built NOW are the 2007 "CLASICS". They are being built as that there won't be a huge gape between the 2006 & the NEW 2007 emissions trucks. I personally think you should view them as 2008 trucks, (NEW TRUCK - NEW STYLE) BUT that won't happen! Howard
scanman 08-11-2006, 11:50 PM I saw an 07 classic on the lot. Same engine specs as 06. I got under the truck and the exhaust was the same as 06. Same kitty and no particulate trap. Hope this helps.
JhnZ71 08-12-2006, 12:08 AM About the 03' you DO NOT have a CAT. Most of the power limiting Emisssions crap began with the LLY Duramaxs. I sold my stock CAT-Less front pipe to an LLY Owner.
Red Diesel will NOT harm an LB7 i use it all the time in mine, Just dont get caught!
JhnZ71 08-12-2006, 12:09 AM I think the LB7s have some sort of EGR but to block it would be pointless, anyways nobody does it.
txdutt 08-12-2006, 12:11 AM as stated before the 07 Classic series will be identical to the current 06 trucks. I believe that when the new production run starts on the 900 series platforms early next year, they will be sold as 2008 models. Could be wrong but can you imagine buying parts if they sold the new trucks as 07 models as well in a few years?? do ya have an early 07 or a late 07??nightmare city!!
nickmascio 08-12-2006, 01:05 AM In Automotive News a few weeks back , under the technology page, they mentioned a new particulate trap that works in conjunction with the existing emissions systens on diesels to completely burn off the dreaded diesel soot particles. They mentioned that it is completely transparent to the driver when it gets full and goes into clean up mode. It cleans itself by momentarily increasing the amount of fuel being injected into the engine to completely burn off the inside the trap. They went on to mention that with this trap and the current emissions systems and the sulfur free fuel diesels engines would no longer smoke or smell and even went as far as to say the tailpipe wouldn't even get dirty - no soot at all! I forget who was making it but it was very effective and should not add too terribly to the price of the diesels once production got ramped up. Bottom line- we may be needlessly fretting over whether or not the new trucks will be worse than the 2006s. Hopefully, as technology marches on, diesel engines will be not only cleaner but more powerful to boot! They're working on it......
JerryC 08-12-2006, 07:39 PM Upcoming soot traps, upcoming ULSD fuel requirements and 0% was enough to convince me to trade my '04 gasser for an '06 Duramax.
Upcoming soot traps, upcoming ULSD fuel requirements and 0% was enough to convince me to trade my '04 gasser for an '06 Duramax.
Same here I had a 04 Avalanche but after a drove the duramax I was sold
Vege-Taco 08-15-2006, 02:57 PM The soot trap is just another flow-restricting filter that has to be replaced every 15,000 miles or so. It's not something I cared to deal with, so I bought my '06. :cool2:
BigBadAllis 08-15-2006, 10:29 PM Just bought my 06 last Thursday. Some dealers had the 07's. Nothing different form the 06's except no $3000 rebate (only $1000). Also got $10K off sticker and the 07 wasn't even close. Sounds like the 07 Classics will remain the same until later this year and it gets closer to 07.
gliderrider 08-15-2006, 11:54 PM The tech for my 6.5 (hope to have my LBZ on Fri) says the complaint from the truckers regarding the ultra low sulphur diesel is that it does not generate the power the current fuels deliver.
I always thought the sulphur only added to the lubricity. Kennedy recommends the use of Cetane + to get back some power. Anyone with any quantifiable evidence on the effectiveness of the various fuel additives?
Also i was in Scotland 2 weeks ago and was told they have been using the ULSD for some 18 months. Europe may be good source of some longer term information
JDTRIP 08-16-2006, 12:27 AM keep the LB7. my son just recently purchased a 06 chebby with the wonder block LBZ. but he keeps coming around wanting to take out the 04 LB7 and blow a little smoke. hwants to get his hands on the 06 DODGE Big Ram for some real smokin fun but he nows thats daddys toy.
