A little curious to know what (if any) symptoms that may indicate a weak or problematic injector?

I know about the crankcase full of diesel, but I am looking for anything that would be an indicator before a catistrophic injector failure.

Things that I have noticed:

Marginally increased crank times for starting and a intermittened miss under power - not real pronouced, just a subtle seat of the pants feeling of uneven firing. The engine also seems to smoke a little more when first started - it does clean up after about 10 seconds or so.

Truck is totally stock, no performance mods and stock fuel and intake systems as well.

Balance rates are an indicator I believe but don't necesarily provide a smoking gun so to speak.

Thoughts?

I just took mine in for rough idle while in gear. Idle is much better in park. Along with the steering rattle fix they told me number 1 injector is out of balance. +5 I think. They told me once this is changed it should take care of the idle problem. Runs fine once you start moving. No diesel in crankcase.

I took my truck in 1 1/2 months before my inj went out and left me stranded on the road.

I noticed a decrease in fuel economy 1st of all.

The inj started making a little more noise than usual

more black smoke when towing or foot to the floor

I did the paper towel trick and saw the ring around the oil dropplet when dropped on the paper towel

Performance, seat of the pants acceleration lacking

This is just my experience...I took it to the dealer and they said the balance rate was in spec for all inj...probably on the line.....and within 3k the crank was filled with diesel.

Hope this helps in one way or another.
