: Swapping 06's Ford to Chev ...
mrbig 07-01-2006, 06:56 PM I am trading my 06 Ford 250 CC (Full to the boot with options) for an 06 full to the boot HD2500 (DVD, sunroof you name it) ...
Can't take being bounced around like a pinball anymore and I'm going deaf from the decibal level of this truck - huh, what, whaddya say...
I will be losing somewhat but not as bad as anticipated due to the 0% financing (GM financial woes are a wonderful thing)
Anyway, anyone care to comment on why the Max is a better truck sure would like to hear all comments - thanks...
;)
benjammin 07-01-2006, 07:06 PM Man, so many words, so little time! The easiest way to put it is that Ford circled the problem on all their vehicles, just look at the grille.
Welcome!
:)
catch03 07-01-2006, 08:52 PM with a duramax you will stay on the road alot more and not in the shop .most people with the ford say it stayed in the shop more than they kept it i have had my 06 lbz scince feb and has never been in the shop at all and has been flawless .so in a nutshell you are making the right move .
m1a2d3 07-01-2006, 09:32 PM i am also going from a ford f350 cc lariat i love the truck hate the diesel. i also own 2 1 ton chevy vans. the thing i dont like about the chevy is the cab is it so small compared to ford. and i dont think you can get the bench seat with leather. also no back up sensors. but i cant tell you how happy i am to be rid of the 6.0 ford. once those trucks are out of warranty a lot of guys are going to be spending big money on repairs. i thought about a v10 ford but its almost as much as the lbz. guess ill have to take 650ft pounds and 16 mpg instead of 8mpg

About a month ago I traded a 05 Powerstroke on a Duramax.
I've had 2 6.0's. The 03 was a very early one and I had a few reflashes on it, but it was one runnin 6.0.
The 05 was a dog. When I asked a few vendors about a some mods I was told (the turbos are different on the 05's, when the rpm's go up the hp drops off). With all the reflashes it has become apparent to me that Ford and IH are detuning this engine to limp it thru the warranty period.
When I heard that I just went out and bought a Duramax. And I couldn't be happier. But what really pissed me off is at what lenghts Ford is going thru to void major warranty claims on the 6.0. I'm just gonna let it go at that.
Yes, you and I both made a good decision.
Riccas 07-01-2006, 09:36 PM Expect to get raped on the trade. My 2005 F350 Crewcab diesel full to the boot was new at just over 49,000 and i got a wopping 31,400 for her. thats a loss of almost 20k
m1a2d3 07-01-2006, 09:46 PM mine was lemon lawed in conn. i put 20k on in 24 months and had to pay 4500 for mileage. i consider myself lucky.
Riccas 07-01-2006, 09:51 PM   YOU GOT LEMON!!! I had 4 tranny's in 10k miles, and other damages in total of just over 30k and lemon was not on MY side:( -:t
m1a2d3 07-01-2006, 10:01 PM did you go to a hearing in hartford
Oregonfireman 07-02-2006, 01:30 AM Hello all, first post here, I am just switching from a 04 cc F350 Lariat with every option and a lot in accessories, but it has been towed 3 times and in the shop about 2 months off and on. I am tired of it, I have always been a Ford guy, but Ford lost me now, I went down and drove the Chevy and didn't realize the ride could be so good, I haven't picked up my new 2500 cc cab yet, they are doing some things to it for me before I pick it up. Such as tinted windows, spray in liner etc. Hopefully I have better luck with the chevy....
LimaBravoZulu 07-02-2006, 04:49 PM I too just traded in my 04 PSD crew cab Lariat 4x4. It was a good truck and had a few issues over 40,000 miles (new turbo, turbo pedestal, flashes) and I could not keep the front brake rotors true. I did not have as many issues as some others with the Ford, but it wasn't trouble-free either.
I really love the LBZ. What a wonderful overall package. The interior is awesome, the engine/tranny combo is fantastic, and it is so freakin quiet. My wife refused to ride in the Ford (not necessarily a bad thing) due to the noise.
I can't wait to get rid of the stock tires and shock package. Thats about the only thing I don't like. These tires and shocks give the short WB crew cab 4x4 a jittery ride. Probably go with 265 Michelin LTXs.
Good luck with your ride.
mrbig 07-02-2006, 04:56 PM I too just traded in my 04 PSD crew cab Lariat 4x4.

If you don't mind what did you get for trade $$$???

I put 265 Cooper ST's. Really like them, they have a little howl going down the road. Have any ideas on what shocks you'll go too???
WhiteSilverado 07-03-2006, 02:15 AM The downsides to your trade are: 1) You are probably upside down financially on the F**D so you'll lose a bit there but the upside to that is if you act fast and qualify, 0% for 6yrs from GM is a good deal. 2) You're gonna miss out on rebuilding your tranny on the F**D. <G>
Douglas J 07-03-2006, 08:41 AM and i dont think you can get the bench seat with leather.
You can get the 60/40 split front bench seat with leather, which is what I have in mine.
dznam 07-03-2006, 09:04 AM I just traded my '01 F350 Crew Cab in on an '06 Duramax SRW CC. Picked it up yesterday :) No compaints on my Ford - in over 100K miles, I only had it in for service once - when the CPS failed. Other than that, the truck was faultless. Just needed a change of scenery and that beast of a motor and tranny:D Once I fix the ride (Ford was a caddy in comparison - Bilstein's on order), the only other thing I'll have to do is to remember to stop typing "Thedieselstop.com". Hope my Chevy's as reliable...
mrbig 07-03-2006, 09:17 AM the only other thing I'll have to do is to remember to stop typing "Thedieselstop.com". Hope my Chevy's as reliable...
Now that's interesting, cause that is the second BIGGEST fault I have with my Ford - the ride is, is, is well - like a truck - LOL...
Test drove the Chev and it rides like a DREAM compared with the 06 Ford. Go figure... The other fault - the noise. I have a Cemetary at the end of my street and I'm constantly waking the dead and I can tell you they don't like that. Now do you have any idea what happens when you piss of a bunch of spirits ... :exactly:
towdog333 07-03-2006, 11:21 AM I think your making a good choice, I have heard so many horror stories about the powerstroke it's unbelievable. I have had 2 Chevys and now a GMC and they all were great trucks. ;)
jasontrucks76 07-03-2006, 11:34 AM I had a 2002 F-250 CC SB 4X4 and a 2003 F-350 CC LB 4X4 and now have a 2006 LBZ Allison. I like the s**t out of this new truck:D More power, better ride, 6 spped auto!! The cab on the ford was a little bigger for the kids but all in all I have no regrets:ro)
Take Care
Good luck with the new truck
m1a2d3 07-03-2006, 03:41 PM dzman if your ford was a 2001 you had a 7.3. in 2003 they changed to a 6.0 powerstroke that is when problems began. good luck on your new ride
mrbig 07-03-2006, 03:50 PM Looks like I have a deal in principal best money I could get was $31,000 for my Ford - and I got the new LBZ for a tad over employee pricing ...
Silver Birch, CC, LT3, DVD, Power Moon Roof - Very Nice indeed...!!! Hope everything goes according to plan. Dealt with Handy Chev in St. Albans, VT.:grd:
2006LBZ 07-03-2006, 04:16 PM Welcome to the GM side, home of the most reliable diesel engine available in a light duty pickup truck.
All kidding aside, Ford really "builds" a nice truck. The engine that powers them is terrible ever since the 6.0 was launched. Very unfortunate for Ford loyalists.
GM now has the best thing going, so welcome to the club, and welcome to the wonderful world of 0% financing.
kr350psd 07-03-2006, 10:55 PM mrbig,
Glad it worked out for you.
I don't think you will be dissapointed.
Gale
mrbig 07-03-2006, 11:11 PM Thanks to all that replied - one last thing I feel is only fair to say about the Ford other than the noise and terrible ride - I did not have any mechanical problems, not one and up here we fall into the minus 20 below numbers for a week or two around the end of January - never a problem...
01GTB 07-03-2006, 11:59 PM I'm brand new here, and thinking about an LBZ myself. As a Ford owner for 20 years, I love em, but I don't trust the current PSD as far as could throw it. I currently own a 2004 F350 XL CC 4x4 with a V10. I have not had a single problem out of it. And it's not the gas expenses that has me looking away from Ford. I actually have no intention on getting rid of the F350, but I wanted a diesel in 2001 and made a mistake waiting for the 6.0 PSD. I absolutely have to have a truck 5 days a week, and it seemed like a crapshoot.
So 0% has me looking. Probably nothing more than that, but who knows ;) If I were to find a 2500 WT or LS, CC standard bed 4x4 in dark blue...I am afraid it would have to be mine ):h
2006LBZ 07-04-2006, 01:04 PM ...As a Ford owner for 20 years, I love em, but I don't trust the current PSD as far as could throw it.
Agreed! I was a Ford guy right up till the 6.0 PSD, and ironically enough the owner of our Ford dealership moved me to the Pontiac/GMC dealership anyways, so I got to see how nice the GM's are. I never bothered to look at them during my Ford years!
I currently own a 2004 F350 XL CC 4x4 with a V10.
Ouch, do you have a BP Tanker to follow you around? LOL
I absolutely have to have a truck 5 days a week, and it seemed like a crapshoot.
Yeah, agreed again! I now depend on my trucks in my car hauling business. I can't deal with getting stranded in other states, and being w/o a truck while they fiddle with the PSD. I have a friend who fights a weekly battle with his F550 6.0 PSD. Nice truck, but too much grief for me though! He probably has enough claims to file under lemon law after a long 7 months of ownership.
So 0% has me looking. Probably nothing more than that, but who knows ;) If I were to find a 2500 WT or LS, CC standard bed 4x4 in dark blue...I am afraid it would have to be mine ):h
Nice! Let's get lookin for a blue truck for this guy, can we? LOL
I have to commend someone when they have good taste! New Duramax in dark blue metallic, yeah that sure sounds good. :) (see signature)
subman631 07-04-2006, 01:42 PM Spending a lazy morning on the 4th reading through the threads and came upon this one. First welcome to all the new Dmax owners! I'm sure none of you will be disappointed. My brother in law has been a loyal Ford guy for many years. He had two 7.3 Fords and had tranny troubles with both of them. He bought an 2005 6.0 and smoked the tranny twice on it. He is hard on his stuff and frankly could break a bowling ball. Both times he smoked the tranny he was towing a 26ft covered snowmobile trailer, (with 4 machines in it) through about 15" of snow into our remote cabin. The last time he blew out most of the tranny fluid and a lot of coolant as well. After I drove and and pulled him the last time he traded it for a new 06 LBZ. He is still grinning. I'm looking at getting a new 07, but I worried I won't like the new body style and afraid the new emissions stuff will really hinder the truck. I know most of you guys are not into modding your trucks, but I can't believe that running a percentage of the exhaust back through the engine is a good thing. I'll keep my 02, I could never get much for it in a trade. I'll sell it someone, but I'm afraid a kid would either blow it up or kill himself in it and I feel bad if either happened. Everyone have a great 4th! :ro)
01GTB 07-04-2006, 04:12 PM :) (see signature)
Nice!
As for the gas in the V10, yeah, it's a bit thirsty. But I still figured it would be cheaper to own than a 6.0 PSD, and not give me a nervous breakdown :o:
CWPINST 07-05-2006, 10:59 PM I have an 04 Powerstroke and a 02 Dmax. I have had zero issues with the Ford. It is more sluggish on light acceleration than the Dmax, but when you put your foot in it, it comes alive and will walk away from my Dmax. The problem is that it takes a lot of pedal to get the power. The Ford rides a LOT better, but the Dmax drives better. The F250 drives like a bus. The Dmax has more pep on light to moderate accelleration but is not as strong when both are floored. The Dmax is much more quiet and gets better mileage. I think that the Ford has a better filtration system (both fuel and air) and the tailgate is MUCH more sturdy than the Chevy. Whoever designed the Chevy tailgate should be shot (probably some city dwelling woman or preppie). We actually did load calculations on them at work. With the same weight on the tailgates, the Chevy was stressed 40% more than the Ford and the Chevy has less sturdy hardware. There is no darn reason why Chevy couldn't improve on that.
I own and love both of them...........so which one do I enjoy driving the most??? The Dmax, hands down!
mrbig 07-05-2006, 11:22 PM After just a few test drives - I could clearly agree with what you said about top end acceleration when flooring both vehicles ... The Ford seemed to get up and go faster after the Turbo caught up upon flooring the pedal - However - I don't agree with the ride assement the ride in my F250 is nothing short of unbearable. The DMax is better by more than 50% ...
CWPINST 07-06-2006, 08:16 PM Mine is an 02 Dmax, so the ride may be better now with the 06. I also understand that the LBZ is the fastest most powerful diesel to date. I hope that this is the case since I may be in the market for a new one in a couple of years. Chevy HAS to change the tailgate design if they want my business though. For a working truck, a tailgate is a very important feature. I don't want the thing to break or distort while I am loading an ATV. Ford and Dodge have a better design........better geometry, sturdier fasteners. Why won't Chevy fix this?
duramex 07-06-2006, 08:40 PM I run my own body shop. I fix more dodge, furd tail gates than gms. just my 2 cents
mrbig 07-06-2006, 09:19 PM I run my own body shop. I fix more dodge, furd tail gates than gms. just my 2 cents
I have a 500LB Polaris outlaw is it going to be a problem running my ATV up onto the truck ...? It was fine with the Ford.
duramex 07-06-2006, 09:54 PM My 660 grizzly has never hurt my gate
5erDriver 07-06-2006, 11:16 PM I just traded my '01 F350 Crew Cab in on an '06 Duramax SRW CC. I also traded a F250 on July 4. It was a 1999 with the 7.3 engine. Great truck, but it sprang an oil leak on the main rear seal last week. So, with the 0% financing, it was just too much of a temptation to pass up. So far, I love the horses in the duramax. Looking forward to pulling my 5th wheel to test out the transmission and torque.
