Hey all. I'm 21 and just purchased my first new vehicale and new diesel. So far the duramax is awesome!:ro) It reads that its getting 14mpg so far and I hear they get 20. A buddy of mine has a new Cummins and he got better fuel mileage after he had several thousand on it. Anyone know if it makes a difference? Thanks.

After a few K it should get better.

If you don't do any towing, it can 20-25k miles for these engines to break in. If you do tow, it'll break-in around 10k or so...

Reset the DIC, fill it up and go for a highway cruise, keep it at 65mph and you will see some decent numbers.

Around town driving you will probably be at 13 to 14, especially if you are frequently enjoying the "power" of the LBZ.

If you want faster results, head over to the 3rd generation electronics forum, and get yourself a power adder. I got a 3 mpg increase. I have had the power pup for 6k and im averaging 17-18 mpg mainly city, with some highway in there. Went to tunica around 180 miles mostly highways but lots small towns that have a knack at having the 1 light in town being red every time I drive there. I get around 20-21 mpg. That is with the ac running.

Yes you will gradually see an improvement in mpg.. Just have to let the truck adapt to your driving and just be patient..

Ya I'm thinking K&N intake then exhaust and Banks with palm pilot. I want to wait to put and electronics on till after a couple thousand miles.

I still consistently see around 14, and I am right at 5000 miles. My driving habits are fairly consistent, and I'll go anywhere from 13.8 to 16.1. If I tow though, it seems I'll stay around 14 for the next couple of tanks, even if I am no longer towing. Seems retarded, but definitely true. After about the 3rd tank after towing, I'll see MPG go back up. This one has me truly puzzled.

Anyway, hope yours goes up. I would love to consistently get in the 15s, but it hasn't happened yet...

If it helps, I have about 13K on my truck and just got back from a 1000 mile trip. I averaged 20.5mpg, it has been going up from the last 4K miles (slowly & almost un-noticably).

have only had the new LBZ for a few weeks and a couple of tanks of petro, but averaging 18.5 to 19 mpg. that is empty, no towing, 1200 miles, and no mods (yet!!). traded in my 2002 LB7 that averaged 18 mpg until it got to about 9k and then steadily increased to about 22 mpg. that was until i got the urge to splurge. bigger tires, AFE intake, banks six gun, 4" magnaflow...then mpg dropped 4-5 on average. heavier foot? mods? maybe a little of each :muahaha:....

but love the new LBZ!!

I have 16k and i see only 14mpg if im lucky. I am only 20 though i still have another year before i hit 21 and that "maturity" stage kicks in where you don't floor it all the time. Gotta admit though... when you can throw some soot into a car next to you and your truck is stock, that is mighty impressive (and humorous :D)

after a couple of months and about 4500 miles I get ~18 around town with normal driving, towed my boat on a 400 mile trip (200 each way) averaging 75mph and was getting 13. my usual tank of fuel includes 1 round trip to the lake of 75 miles and i average about 16-17 for the whole tank. haven't been on an interstate trip not towing so I really don't know how it would do. But it seems like above 70mph the milage decreases a bit. On one short interstate jaunt i was getting ~19.5-20 for the 30 or so miles on it. heck it's better than my explorer v-8 ever thought about getting!
