Hey guys, Got the new truck. Love it and this forum. This has probably been answered before and I apologize for wasting space, but I searched high and low with no luck.
DOES THE SPARE NEED TO MATCH THE TIRES ON YOUR TRUCK TO AVOID DAMAGING THE DIFFERENTIAL?
Specifically asked the dealer this and the answer was "it only locks below 20 mph so you should be fine to drive to the nearest tire shop". What do you guys think of this? Sounds fishy to me.

You would never have enough RPM difference between the two tires to engage the locker no matter what size the tires are. Nothing to worry about at all.

If you are driving on dry roads and being careful in any loose dirt etc. on take off you will be OK. Any wet condition could lock it up very easily. Later! Frank

If you are asking, if the tires need to be the same brand. The Answer is NO! But they need to be the same size. Other wise you should put the wrong size on the front in case of a flat. On the front it don`t matter unless you are in 4 wheel drive.
Never run different size tires on the drive axle. Running a 245 on one side and a 265 on the other side may not hurt for a very short trip, But it will over the long haul.
My spare is the factory 245. And I run 285`s, I just hope I never have a flathttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif However, in the event that happens, I will put the spare on the front, making sure both back tires match in size.

Yep, I agree. For a very short distance it may be alright otherwise I would either put a matching spare on or if you have the factory spare put it on the front if your flat is on the rear. A 265 or even a 285(I think) will fit under the truck with the factory spare tire carrier.
