Well, I was off to look for some parts for a lawn mower engine I am rebuilding for a guy. I was almost at my destination (on a busy highway) when the engine on my truck quit. I coasted into the parking lot, turned the key off, slammed the door, and walked into the place and asked about the parts.

I went to leave and it wouldn't start (duh). I opened the air bleed and it spit out a mess of air and foamed diesel fuel, which then turned to straight diesel. A little cranking later, it fired up and I pulled out and took off for home.

I had to repeat this operation 14 times to get home (six miles).

At home, I pressured up the system, found two leaks. One was a return line, and the other was one of the fuel supply lines. I fixed them. I tested it again and didn't find any other leaks. Then I bled the system again (didn't get any air).

I pulled out for a test drive, and it stalled about 600 feet after I pulled out of the driveway. Started right up again though...

Another 600 feet it stalled again. Back where I was to begin with... I coasted into the driveway and bled the air out of it. It fired up again and stalled as I pulled into my parking space (made it about 75 feet :D).

So here I am... We'll see what I find...

Shoot man, it's always something it seems.:( I don't get what's with the foam in the fuel line and not just bubbles, maybe a very small leak? I'm trying to find a fuel line system diagram, if I find one, I'll share.

Okay is your fuel cap on tight.I hear if it loose you might get bad fuel milage. Also we may need a little background on this truck .We might need to know whos truck you stole ............lol .

It sure feels great when we have fixed some of the problems :exactly: .But  issed when things dont work right . -:t

Could the sock on the pickup tube in tank be about stopped up? (let it set -fuel soaks in sock-start engine and it sucks the sock togather and runs out of fuel-repeat.

Okay I read a manual that after changing the fuel filter and bleeding off the filter to let sit ideling for 15 mins .This was to bring any fuel bubbles to the top of the filter or lines the fuel filter is the highest point for our trucks .This making the point to where all air might be.Bleed one more time for solid fuel meaning no air in it . And not making it look like green soda if it had air in it. But you seem to be onto something with the small leaks as you said.

I've had gas trucks before. I recently sold my dmax. If I can't afford a diesel truck. I'm doing without one.

Well, looks like I am going to need a fuel pump. I'm thinking it is leaking and sucking air into the system.

Exactly what I was thinking!

I had this (didn't check for air though) same thing happen to an '83 6.2 Gvan I was driving. Anything that had an incline (whether moving or not) would cause problems. I'm in flat country, so I have to HUNT for locations where it would be problematic. Turned out to be the fuel lift pump. It sure wasn't pumping because I connected a fuel pressure gauge (0-15psi) to the output on the fuel filter and cranked on the engine w/ only the starter and not running the engine and got no pressure. Removed the pump and you could easily push in the plunger, really easily, try a new one, you'll see what I mean.

Good luck!

Just replaced the fuel pump on my 6.2 two weeks ago. Started up and ran for 10 sec. then died.

Yet ANOTHER truck with air in the system? I don't know if that is even possible... Everybody's got one now... The entire fleet of 6.2s is going to be down... They're almost as unreliable as a 350 gasser now.

Yeah, that was for you, holtzer...):h

Frankly, at this point I don't think you even have to read this thread... You'll probably get it anyway, just for being a member of this board... ):h

I am going to have to buy a fuel pump. One of these days... Right now I am content riding my latest motorcycle. Much faster than my truck, but it just doesn't sound as cool. Then again, what do I expect from a big, screaming two-stroke... :D
