I am dealing on an 06 Dually C.C. D.A.
After further research I have found out it has the LLY in it not the LBZ
This truck is loaded to the gills with goodies and is everything I was looking for BUT the LBZ
Should I be concerned about the LLY?
Just kinda DISAPOINTED it does not have the new motor

Read the sticky section above in the main menu as to the differences between the LLY and the LBZ engines. Seems the block casting, connecting rods, combustion chambers and heads, glowplugs and controller, turbo charger aerodynamics, and injectors among other things were strengthened and improved which cut emissions and noise while boosting horsepower and torque. I bought a new LBZ and would not have considered an LLY regardless of the trim level. The LLY does not have the technological refinement of the LBZ. The new LMM engine will (as I understand it) be the LBZ with additional emission controls tacked on. My advice would be to skip the LLY and go for the LBZ but that's only one man's opinion, afterall you are going to be paying a lot of money and living with this choice for quite a while to buy the stale technology.

The 06 LLY and LBZ are the same exept for programming, the 06 LLY is different from the 05 and lower LLY though. If you are going to run a programer it may not be that big of a deal, but you should be able to beat them up on the price of the LLY as many dealers want to get rid of them as most people want the LBZ.

I have to agree with joeycoates! I also have a 2006 LLY, and have had no major issues to this point (Only the glowplug upgrade has been done as we all have). You should be able to get a great deal on the LLY, and maybe even get the 0 % financing that is available. I have more than enough power, and the 2006 LLY's are more similar to the LBZ's than to the older LLY's. The 2006 has many of the LBZ improvements listed with the exception of the programming, and possibly the engine casting. There is a lot of information available relating to this, just get ready to read! In my humble opinion, both of the 2006's are great trucks, and you can't go wrong with either, as long as it is a Duramax Diesel with the 6 speed Allison. It really depends what you want and need in the truck. Good luck with whatever you choose!

My vote goes to the LBZ & stay away from the LLY. They done away with the LLY & went to the LBZ for a reason. Personally, I need another truck now but the money I save now may be the money I spend later. I am waiting for the '07 LBZ.

Just like joeycoates says, the ONLY difference between the 2006 LBZ and the 2006 LLY is the ECM PROGRAMMING. That is all! -Same block, conn rods, pistons, heads, turbo, injection system, glowplug system, cooling system, air intake, etc.

Oh, the PRICE should also be lower! You should be able to get a better price and a larger rebate.

Unless you want to race it or pull real heavy loads, you will probably not miss the difference in power.

The truck you are looking at has been sitting on the lot since October. You should get it for employee price minus any rebates. As long as it has the 6 speed Allison you will have a good truck. The 2006 LLY may be rated lower on HP and T but someone will have to prove to me they are less than the LBZ. I scale in at 35,000lbs on some loads and never had a power problem. The same truck with the LBZ will cost $2000 or more to buy if you't can find a dealer willing to discount a LBZ more than $4,000.

The only difference should be the lower price you can get the LLY at.
I've not driven an LBZ and can't say that there is or is not a noticable difference between the two, but I can tell you that my 06 LLY is not lacking in the get up and go dept. I'm very happy with mine.

from what i can gather...a stock 05lly runs mid 16's in the quarter, a stock 06lly runs mid 15's, and an lbz runs low 15's. I have 26k on my 06lly and its been perfect. I dont think most people will be able to tell a couple tenths difference, being that they have the same motor just a programming difference.

It was my mistake. As of Oct 1, 2005, the updates were made to the LLY. I knew that, I just wasn't thinking. It is pretty much the same as the '07 LBZ. Thanks for the posts to remind me. I get aggravated at myself when I post wrong info. Again, I have been here only a few weeks but, I have learned ALOT from you people here. I have really enjoyed this site.

I made the move from a 01 LBZ to a 06 LLY kinda the same sorta deal, turned out to be a great move and the wife and myself love the truck. Usually I can never get my wife away from it so I can drive it....:( I was a little skeptical at first But I have yet to be let down by the truck.

Good luck

Just kinda DISAPOINTED it does not have the new motor

Should you be concerned about the LLY? No. Earlier LLY's tend to run hot; those that tow heavy sometimes experience over heat. The '06 LLY and cooling system is comparable to the LBZ.

I tow heavy and have never over heated my LLY. That truck has more soul than any vehicle I've ever owned! :ro) If not for the LBZ, I'd buy an LLY in a heart beat!

That being said; I'm one of those types that wants everything exactly the way I want it. If it were me, I'd wait and locate or order the exact truck I want.

Good luck!

I agree with most of the posters here...the LLY and LB7 are the same engines with different programming. There's nuthin' wrong with the LLY and if the 50 extra HP is the issue for you, think about this: Dealers wanna move the LLY and you can save THOUSANDS over a comparably equipped LBZ engined unit. Them THOUSANDS saved can be put to better use, right? A key financial strategy is to REDUCE your capital cost. This is a great way to do that.

And if ya just gotta get that extra 50 HP, go get a programmer and get 75 instead.

Now to get my hitch installed
Should be done today
If anyone has pictures of a Prodigy breke controler
installed in the counsel area?
I have a hole that it will fit in just need to figure
out how to remove the beasel to get it wired.

Congrats on the new truck, Paul! :)

FWIW, I mounted my brake controller (Voyager III) under the dash immediately right of my right knee (approx 1" from console). U-bracket sheet metal screwed to metal brace. Clean, solid, easy to operate for right-hander.

I don't have the console, but I put it so that I can see my controller through the rung in the steering wheel.
