: Running off-road diesel in LBZ.
Duramax_Farmer 06-29-2006, 01:01 AM Would there be any ill affects or damage to pump, injectors, cat, or EGR systems due to running the off road (+500ppm) high sulfer fuel. Local farmer wanted to know. I told him I know for a fact the 07s and newer theres no way you'll beable to so he wants to get an 06 for his farm use and wanted me to ask if it's ok to. Thanks for the help.
walsh450mx21 06-29-2006, 01:25 AM Well me and my family have been using it for about 5 years since thr max's came out and no problems we were even talking to the diesel guy today about it and he siad that the 07s will be effected cus there ultra low ppm engines or somthing like that but no i would say you should be fine i have been running ti for over 6 months and im fine..
The off road fuel sold around here is actually the same LSD fuel (500 PPM)with a red dye pack added. Maybe it's different in other areas?
hdbeast 06-29-2006, 09:46 AM It's illegal to run off-road diesel in trucks used on the road here in Kansas. Off-road diesel does not have highway tax on it. At the local sale barn the Highway Patrol will go through the parking lot pulling out samples of diesel from the tanks. If you have the off road in your tank, you face big fines.

Your statement applies to all states...It is illegal to run "off-road" fuel on the road in any state. DOT Enforcement will check for it, especially on farm related trucks, or people hauling equipment that might normally run off-highway fuel. They figure people that have the fuel for other equipment might run it in their highway use trucks also.
Riccas 06-29-2006, 11:06 AM What's the fine??? Because i think i wil definately be runnning it from now on.... shhh
jeffster 06-29-2006, 11:08 AM I know a local guy that got caught and it was $10,000. Definitely not worth the risk for me...
RayMich 06-29-2006, 01:30 PM What's the fine??? Because i think i wil definately be runnning it from now on.... shhhThe fine is $10,000 per occurrence per vehicle and you run the risk that they may even confiscate your truck. The risk is NOT WORTH IT in my book, but to each his own.
Duramax_Farmer 06-29-2006, 01:44 PM He knows its illegal so you guys don't have to tell me that he just wanted to know about problems with the engine. Thanks
gun5l1ng3r 06-29-2006, 03:22 PM How much cheaper, or why would you want to run the off-road diesel?
stxfarmer 06-29-2006, 03:42 PM Same fuel, just red dye in it. As always make sure you have a good filter on the truck since farm fuel tanks might be exposed to more dirt than pumps at a fuel stop. Been running it since I got my 2001 and no problems. Sometimes techs will say something to the service writer but no issues when they replaced the injectors on my 2001.
TRUDIESEL 06-30-2006, 12:45 AM When the diesel was really high sulfur, back in the day, a pickup would run alot better. Smoke a little more but you could tell the difference in the way that your truck would run.
deadfurrow 06-30-2006, 02:36 AM Most off-road fuel is the same as on-road fuel except for the dye, but you can still get high sulfer fuel, mostly for heating & boiler applications. The higher sulfer wouldn't hurt anything in a pre-07 diesel (it would probably help: better lubricity).
My fuel distributor told me that the fine in Ohio for running off-road fuel on the highway is $100 per gallon in your tank, or $1000, whichever is greater, for the first offense. Not sure if that's true or not though, since it wouldn't be the first time he was feeding me a line of BS!
walsh450mx21 06-30-2006, 08:06 AM Well our fuel supplier said that its 5000 for the firts offense then if you get caught again its 10000 then a third offense they take your truck....
