: DieselPower Magazine: stock LBZ gets 19 mpg!
SUMMITMAXLLY 06-28-2006, 03:50 AM In the August 2006 issue of DieselPower magazine, they field tested a stock 2006 Silverado X-Cab 2WD with the LBZ engine.
In a 800 mile test loop in Los Angeles, the LBZ averaged 19 mpg!
The field conditions were not mentioned, so I do not know how much of it was in the city or on the highway.
So, what is everybody's else MPG average?
Bradyf 06-28-2006, 06:20 AM Average my LBZ (http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/autolink.php?id=22&script=showthread&forumid=140) gets about 15 MPG. It gets about 13 MPG in city and just a little over 20 MPG on the highway. Then again, very little beats me across an Intersection. I can also make the average about 10 mpg on flat ground running down the road at 90+.
bruins499 06-28-2006, 08:10 AM I'm getting a little over 19 mpg and I am mostly highway and country roads with a little city driving.
chevy max 06 06-28-2006, 10:11 AM I averaged 19.4 mpg driving from central N.J. to Aurora Il. with A/C
FASTOYS 06-28-2006, 11:07 AM I too got around 19.4 or so when i first got the truck and took a long trip. DIC was VERY close and often lower than hand calculated. Last night i took a short trip (2 lane road, 55 & 65 mph) 40 miles or so and got 22 mpg. Maybe it is breaking in as i towed the trailer last week so maybe that helped.?
Riccas 06-28-2006, 12:00 PM Avg = 15mpg
HW optimum = 20-ish
HW speed limiter = 14
Town = 15mpg
ski bum 06-28-2006, 12:05 PM 600 miles on mine now, first two tanks were 17 mpg, all city driving.....
smokinLBZ06 06-28-2006, 12:16 PM 17 Avg. 22 Highway
NeilW 06-28-2006, 12:29 PM I wish I could get the kind of miles you guys are talking about.
I think I only get 13-14 mph with 1000 miles on truck. Manuel check!
I have been driving really easy, also.
The 285's must make a big difference. I do have the truck programmed for 265's so I think you add 3% to the odometer reading. right??
deadfurrow 06-28-2006, 12:37 PM In a 800 mile test loop in Los Angeles, the LBZ averaged 19 mpg!
So, what is everybody's else MPG average?
My average is slightly better than 19 MPG with around 18k miles on my LBZ (mostly unloaded highway miles). That's about .75 MPG less than my old LB7, but I don't remember getting ~20 MPG with my LB7 until I had more than 30k+ miles on it.
smokinLBZ06 06-28-2006, 04:07 PM Better mileage comes with more miles on the truck;) , unless your foot is in it all the Time.):h
Gatorac 06-28-2006, 08:35 PM The DIC is telling my I'm getting 9.9 mpg. That's pretty much all city driving.
ChevyWolf 06-28-2006, 08:39 PM 18.7, 18.8, 20.7, 21.0, 18.3., 21.2. so far.
2006sierra 06-28-2006, 10:04 PM I get 18.5 mpg mixed driving hand calculated. I have a light foot 95% of the time. I get 21 on with cruise set at 70mph. I have bfg 285 x 75 tires - these will throw off your milage calculations by 7.8%.... in other words you need to multiply your milage by 1.078 and then devide by the number of gallons. This should give you a more accurate reading. :thumb:
TRUDIESEL 06-28-2006, 10:59 PM I have about 5000 miles w/ 285 BFG's. 14-15 town & 19-20 hw & 11-13 towing 12k
DuraMaximus06 06-29-2006, 02:06 AM The DIC is telling my I'm getting 9.9 mpg. That's pretty much all city driving.
try resetting your dic!
Dirt Dog 06-29-2006, 02:14 AM Hand calculated, 17.4 mpg, highway with 6,500 miles on it running 75 mph+. DIC said I was getting 15.5 mpg.
GMCfourX4 06-29-2006, 12:52 PM I have always hand-calculated mileage, and my 2,000mi new '06 LLY has gotten between 17.5 - 18.5 after the first tank, going up a bit each tank. My DIC says I'm getting 15.5 - 16mpg.... and its always off by 1.5 - 2.5 gallons on each fillup (it thinks I used more fuel than I did). Having the DIC off by that much is kindof annoying.... Anyone know if there's a way to recalibrate it? I reset the gallons used, and average mileage at each fillup. Also, I check my odometer against mile-markers on the highway, b/c someone posted that sometimes the odometer is off with stock tires, but mine appears to be dead-on. I drive a mix of city/highway, with more of it in the city (and Boston traffic at that!), so I can't complain about 18mpg. I did give it some exercise when I broke it in, though.... a few hard runs up to 3,000rpm after it was warmed up, then varied it all over the place through the first 1,000mi.... some light driving, some hard...

lumenium 06-30-2006, 12:46 AM With 18K miles, I'm getting 20.5 MPG 80% highway 20% Country Roads ;)
FASTOYS 06-30-2006, 12:56 AM Been checking it close for the last 3 days with several trips to town and ball games. Driving "nice" DIC shows a pretty consistent 19.2 but it usually reads alittle low so we are real close to 20 hand calculated. 40 mph on gravel and 65mph on the hwy with some town driving included. If i drive it on 2 lane w/55mph speed limits it will get around 22-23! But we dont have many of those anymore. Besides it feels like your crawling.
P.S. Bullydog on middle setting!
mobilrvn 06-30-2006, 01:11 AM With 8500 miles, 17.3 mixed driving and 9.5 towing a 14k 5W. Soon as I use up the rest of the Delo will switch to syn. and see if that helps. Glynne Smith in Opelika AL charge me nearly $400 to change to oil, oil filter, fuel filter, tnx filter and switch out the rear end oil with syn, so be forwarned.
