: GM Protection Plan for LBZ?
TBRDUC747 06-27-2006, 11:38 PM I don't know if this is the right forum, but wanted to ask about the extended warranty plans that GM is sending me. Each one sounds like it will be the last one offered to me and the latest only extends my warranty by 72,000.
I currently have 22,000 on the truck and purchased it Jan 3, 06. Is the warranty worth it and are there better sources than direct from GM to buy it. Can I purchase it right up until I reach 36,000 or is there some limit?
Any information or recomendations would be appreciated. On my 01 8.1L I didn't have any engine or transmiision problems, only transfer case issues with the pump rubbing a hole.
Thanks.
SleeperTRK 06-28-2006, 01:08 AM It wont be the last one, and yes you cant extend it at 35,999 miles. You will have to get your truck checked over to make sure everything works. GM is prob your best bet when it comes to extended warrantys.
100,000 engine and 72,000 everything else. Sounds like a deal to me. How much tho?
duramex 06-28-2006, 01:11 AM They seem to keep sendig them for a long time. I got one in the mail the other day for a truck i haven't had for 3 years
2006LBZ 06-28-2006, 01:13 AM Normally I'm a believer in extended warranties.....BUT
Most likely if you experience a major issue, it will be beyond 100k, when even the extended is expired. The transmission is the only thing that concerns me, cause if you burn one up they are pricy as hell....
To add the coverage will cost a pretty penny, and I would like to know the cost if you can post it here.
Prostar8.20 06-28-2006, 08:16 AM At least you can do a tranny (remove-install) yourself and send it to a bunch of different people to be worked on. If you have electricial problems, your done, your stuck with a dealer and GM parts and it doesn't take long to rake up the bills. I won't own any of these new vehicles for more than 50K or 3 years, if I did it would have an ext. warranty.
joeycoates 06-28-2006, 12:33 PM Prostar is right, if you ever have an electrical problem then you can usually kiss you bank balance goodby. Too many dealers fix electrical by throwing parts at the problem with no appologies or returns if they happened to throw three wrong parts at it before they find the problem.
Riccas 06-28-2006, 12:39 PM What happened to 5yr/100mi warranty standard??? Thats what i have and where i'm from that's what everyone offers on thier diesels. That covers the engine up to 100 mi or 5yrs. The tranny is only covered up to 36k tho...
Rebelchevy87 06-28-2006, 02:23 PM I just got mine, and it had 3/36,000 on the truck, and I believe 5?/100,000 on the engine. I bought an extended warranty with it. I now have 3yr/100,000 on the entire truck. 3 years is fine, since I put 85,000 on my last car in 2 and a half years.
As far as worrying about the trannies, do people really have too many issues with the allison? My dad is a Diesel Mechanic at fedex and he told me they have a 10 year unlimited mile warranty from allison. Now why can't GM offer that?
gun5l1ng3r 06-28-2006, 03:46 PM I thought the new ('06) trucks w/ LBZ and Ally all had 100K mile warranties on the Engine and Tranny.
RayMich 06-28-2006, 04:08 PM I thought the new ('06) trucks w/ LBZ and Ally all had 100K mile warranties on the Engine and Tranny. The 2006 Allison transmission's warranty is 3yr/36,000 miles unless you get the extended warranty, then it's covered for the balance of the extended warranty. Your deductible depends on your contract terms (Mine is $0).
2006LBZ 06-28-2006, 05:45 PM Anybody posting their GMPP cost?
TBRDUC747 06-28-2006, 11:03 PM If less than 12K on truck and within 12 months
Basic Guard $1220
Value Guard $1540
Major Guard $1660
If greater than 12K and less than 24K and greater than 12 months
Basic $1565
Value $1985
Major $2195
You can go to www.gmpponline.com (http://www.gmpponline.com) for the plan details. Searching the archives someone posted that there are dealers out there who will sell for less. Search the internet for a quote.
Still not sure if it is worth it. I guess based upon the cost of the transfer case that GM refused to help with it probably would have been worth it on my 8.1L. I guess that I will wait until I get closer to 36K before I decide on the 06 LBZ.
Thanks for all the input.
EricM 06-29-2006, 01:46 AM GMOutlet.com has the full pricing schedules for the GMPP. I bought the 7 year, 84,000 mile Major Guard plan with $0 deductible from my dealer back when I bought my truck and paid $3495 (that's the discount price believe it or not) for it. You can always cancel it later and get a prorated refund if you don't want it (you get a full refund if you cancel within the first few months if I recall). You can transfer it to the next owner for a $50 transfer fee.
I had never bought one before because I normally trade when the 3/36 runs out but figured I'd hang on to this one a little longer and it will help when I go to sell it. I'll basically be able to sell someone a 5 year old truck that will have about 50,000 miles on it (I don't drive much) with 2 years and 34,000 miles of warranty coverage left.
The price goes up drastically as the truck ages. If you wait until you have 24K on the vehicle to buy it, the list price is $6355 and the discount price at GMOutlet.com is $5885.
