Hello all! I'm new to this forum but have been browsing all the diesel forums since i got my truck new in May 2001. My question is with the flywheels on 6-speed trucks. When is GM ever gonna get one that doesn't break the springs in them every 25k miles. I've got the 3rd flywheel in my truck right now and am ready to go get the 4th. And btw, I thought it was common practice to replace the clutch and pressure plate when a new flywheel was installed. The last time in all the dealer did was change the flywheel. Anyone make an aftermarket flywheel for these that aren't of the dual mass type. Any info would be greatly appreciated. The truck has 76k miles on it now.

Wish I had your answer, but do not.

Just wondering what the symptoms are for your problem. I have the ZF6 that has had a new flywheel and clutch at 3K (took it in for squeeky clutch pedal, go figure). Ever since it shudders under load when engaging the clutch.

Thanks,

Bill

had mine replaced at 10,000 and it needs another one within a time of 200 miles from then. Dealer says GM is working on another flywheel and I should wait for it to come out. Also my clutch squeeaks constantly in the warm weather we have been having, along with a squeak engaging and disengaging the clutch whether the engine is on or off. I just need it fixed. the new flywheel and clutch plate they put it had a shudder under loads as you stated wschubbe. I have been waiting for 3 months now.

Common problem with all 6spds. My dealer says he won't replace another in my truck till GM re-engineers it yet again. The flywheel and queaky pedal are two different issues. The fly-wheel is the most serious. I've heard rumors that at the beginning of July is the release date for the newest flywheel. You'll feel the clutch pedal rattle and groan while partially engaged, and the sound/feeling will go away while either fully engaged or fully disengaged.

As for the squeaky pedal, it's a plastic bushing in the pedal that squeaks mostly in warm weather. Some guys have found metal bushings to replace this, but that's your only cure for the pedal.

All I can say is keep bugging your dealer for the fly-wheel, that's the only way you'll get your fly-wheel problem fixed!

Is there a TSB for this flywheel problem? I left my '04 cc/sb 6sp 13K miles, with the dealer on Monday. He said there was a tsb for a flywheel bolt, but I can't find one. Same symptoms as above.
