For the last 8 months or so my trucks has been going into limp mode pretty much every time I turn it on. I don't have a lot of time to take it into the dealer or leave it there since I make my living using my truck (pulling a trailer every day) but it has been in there 3 times. The first time they told me the FPRV had gone bad (about 15,000 miles on the truck) they didn't have one in stock so I had to take my truck home with me instead of leaving it there. They cleared the DTC and I was on my way... No limp mode for about 2 weeks following this waiting till I had another chance to take it in, finally I did and they replaced the FPRV but never cleared the DTC, as soon as I drove my truck that night (Picked it up after the dealer had closed) it went straight into limp mode. I took it back again last week but they couldn't find anything wrong with it, cleared the DTC and they took it for a couple test drives and nothing happened. Well I got it home, hooked up my boat, and as soon as I pulled on the road it went into limp mode again.

The truck has a 4" exhaust without a cat on it. My question is since I ditched the cat could I be getting a code because of the lower back pressure and it's causing the truck to limp? It's about the only thing I can think of that could cause it. If so, is the finger stick the solution to my problem or do you guys think I have more problems than just the exhaust?

I have NO CEL.

Thanks.

The question that I have is what DTC is being set?

How many miles since you changed the fuel filter?

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? I have mine do the 2K rpm limp (I assume that is what you are talking about) alot when it is time for my filter to be changed. Usually just after a mash of the pedal Then at the next stopp light on a slow roll bamn no more that 2K makes it hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. It is always a 1093 code for me. I do have a predator so it is a mild PITA I usually just pull it out and clear the DTC's going down the road. Than as soon as I get a chance I change the fuel filter. If you havent changed the filter it may be a realitively cheap start, I am sure others will chime in. I know if I didn't have the ablity to clear codes I would be a pissed off sob going down the road in limp mode.

Filter was changed within the last 1k miles.

I don't know what code is being set, they were closed when I picked it up this time too.

Yes, I'm talking about the 2k rpm limp.

So pretty much the symptoms stayed the same before and after the filter change? I am not sure if a tank off bad fuel may have done it? I think kenndy is right you need the codes, I have exaust and no cat and never had it limp just randomly, In fact when it gets close to filter change time I can pretty much make it limp on command.

think I would be investing in something that could read and clear the codes. Might try a different dealer as well, that one doesn't sound too helpful.

Knowing the codes would help.

I'd suggest considering fuel lift supply pump(s) if it's a 1093 code.

Ran a power pup on it and didn't get a code back. Took it for a ride, made it limp, ran the power pup again and still no codes. So either that thing is a pos or it's not throwing codes. It's on a stock tune btw.
