Does anyone know how to disable the annoying seat belt dinger in the 2004 Dodge truck? It is driving me crazy http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif, even though it stops after four minutes or so. Please let me know.

Thanks,

Justin

You mean while you're driving?

I have the same problem. I can't even idle around the yard without it driving me nuts!

Fellows, the first few pages of your owner's manual should cover it. If you do not have. Let me know and I will post all the instructions.

Info on this is on Pg. 43 I believe of the 2004 Dodge manuel for my 2004 600 cummins.

Basically what you do is,

1) With the engine off, put your seatbelt on.

2) Start the engine and wait for the seatbelt light to go off

3) Once the light goes off, unbuckle and buckle the seat belt within 60 seconds.

Then just turn the engine off, and turn it back on and this should get it off. I feel your pain.... When your out checking on cows, and constantly getting in and out of the truck, it's a royal pain to have to keep taking your seatbelt on and off to avoid the seatbelt nazi going off....Edited by: gbcop

Thanks for the info gbcop. What you listed worked -- until the next time I actually put the belt on and took it off and drove. Any idea how to permenantly disable the reminder?

I am not sure if it works on a dodge or not but you can try unplugging the seat belt wires under the seat. It works on Fords. You might have to short the 2 wires together.

Fortuantely it was a "perm" fix for me, thank goodness. But before I found the "secret" code to disable it, I used the buckle for the 3rd seatbelt and just simple stuck it in the reciever on the driver's side. The seatbelt nazi and the fasten seatbelt light were then gone perm. But you might try and check your owner's manuel, I might have left a step out to perm. disable it. And don't forget, if for some reason, you disconnect your battery, you'll have to enter the "Secret" code again to disable the seatbelt nazi. Edited by: gbcop

Thanks, guys, for the input. I will give the code a shot to see what happens.

I found it in the owner's manual. I think it goes something like this:

Turn truck off. Fasten seat belt. Turn truck ignition on and start. Wait for seat belt light to go out. Unplug and replug seat belt 3 times ending with it plugged in. Turn truck off. As you turn ignition off you will hear a chime that says you sucessfully completed the procedure.

Hope this helps! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Thanks cause the previous method didn't work. I ended up putting a jumper in the connector. That works too.

Thanks all for your info!

OH I don't know here is an idea! Try wearing your damn seatbelt. It will save your life, nothing being in the ER and seeing a guy come in who was too good to wear his and went through the windshield. Some nice scars, removed tons of glass and oh did I mention the 475 stitches that it took to put his face back together. Buckle up, it will soon be the law all over, not just Texas.....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

I wear mine all the time and agree with you 100%... except when I stop at the end of my driveway to pick up the newspaper and don't put it back on cause I'm home or I'm backing a trailer and I can't move with the belt wrapped around my body. Then the darn bell gets on my nerves. I don't need a reminder. I feel unsafe without it on the highway.Edited by: hoot

Both my wife and I wear ours all the time when on the highway but it gets annoying as $hit when you are driving through the pasture or loading hay out of the field or something like that.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif

I agree with both of you 100%. I use my seatbelt anywhere I go. There are those times -- the 1000 feet from the mailbox/trash can to the house, in the pasture, driving down the river bed collecting rocks, backing trailers, etc that it's a pain in the butt. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Well not everyone that owns a diesel truck stays on the pavement..... When driving in a cow pasture and having to constantly get in and out of the truck and not reaching speeds of more than 10mph on flat ground, you can't tell me you'd wear it either, and that annoying seatbelt nazi is NOT NEEDED.

There ought to be an exemption to the seatbelt law where if you have x amount of life insurance coverage then you shouldn't be required by law to wear it.
