I just got a new Durmax that was built in April. Are the glow plugs ok or will I get a recall? I got 150 miles on the truck so far and when I started it this morning in the garage I did not see the glow plug light come on.

I picked my 2006 2500HD CC LBZ 4x4 up on June 13, it also doesn't light up the "Wait to Start" or glow plug status light at start up. The dealer said it wouldn't and didn't seem to understand what I was asking when I questioned him about it. I recall that all the trucks in inventory were reprogrammed and/or modified to solve to glow plug problems. So far the truck has operated completely trouble free, but the temperature has been 70 to 100 degrees, so glow plugs would hardly be a concern. I'll wait until winter and a trip to Lake Tahoe to see what happens.

call or stop in the dealer's service and ask them.

I also have just picked up my new 2006 Silverado 3500 and the "Wait to Start" light has never came on. I asked about it and was told that the new 360HP engines have High output Glow Plugs and that I don't need to worry about any "Wait to Start" process as the glow plugs warmup immediately. I guess I will wait until it gets COLD here, however, in Florida; it never gets very cold.

so far on my truck if its 70 degrees or more the light doesnt come on. so those guys down south may never see the light unless it gets below 70.

Throughout last winter my glow plug light never stayed on more than 5 seconds.
If you watch when you turn the key it lights for a mili-second.

When I received my truck in mid. Feb. the glow light would come on for about 2-3 sec. in the morning. Later in the day as it warmed up the light would not come on. Now that it is hot the glow light does not come on. It is as Tinman22 stated.

I have some muffler bearings for sale if you are interested.
The temps are too warm right now for the glow plugs to kick on. When it is cold out they will come on. I bought my truck in December pre-recall and when it was about 20 - 40F out they would stay on for about 3 - 4 seconds. I started her up one morning when it was 5F out, it took about 5 - 10 seconds for the light to go off. The truck also has a grid heater in the intake manifold that will heat the air up so the trucks first gulp of air will be nice and warm.
In all actualilty if a diesel has good compression you don't need any of that crap. My 59 Ford ( sorry guys ) tractor relies on good old compression and she fires up everytime.

My 2006 2500HD CC Long bed 4X4 was delivered on April 6 for me to pick up on the 8th and I had a friend of mine who is a service tech at the local Chevy dealership rum my Vin # for recalls or service bulletins, and it came up negative mine was a special order and was built between January and April, so it was built in or after April it should be good, but all you have to do is call the local dealership service center and give them your Vin # and they can tell you for sure.

My truck sat in the garage for two days and the glow plug light did flicker on. The temp out side was low 80's. I now have 250 miles and am very pleased with the truck. I just weighted the truck and it weighted 6940 with me in it (225 lbs) and half a tank of fuel. I am going to be towing a fiver at 12,000 lbs and putting in a transflow tank 30 gal. I am going to be very close to the weight limit if not over but the old truck handled it just fine.
