I just purchased a 2500HD Sierra - ordered in late Jan/early Feb & picked it up at the end of March.

I was told that any DMax vehicles ordered after Jan 3, 2004 will have the new LLY motor in them, but ... how do I know? There doesn't seem to be anything that directly indicates what engine is in the truck.

Reason I'm curious is the truck has less than 2500 miles on it & I'm already dealing with injector failures. Just dropped it off at the dealer & will see what they say tomorrow...

I would say with 99.9% accuracy you have an LLY.


But to be 100% sure, check your VIN.


Look at the eighth digit of your VIN. If it is 1=LB7 or a 2=LLY

Also only one of those two engine codes (LB7 or LLY) will appear on the equipment codes sticker in the glovebox.
