: Will custom tune from E-live lesson smoke?

Wondering if a custom tune like Kennedy or Moonshine lower the amount of black smoke. Have a PPE Hot +2 / VA stacked. Has real good power but the smoke is excessive. I expect some at the start but not a 300 foot streak down the road. Starting to have people pull over in fear thinking the train has jumped the track and headed down main street. Just a matter of time before someone sideswipes me or even worse shoots me. Sucks to have all this power and have to hide it for this reason. Will take off these toys until I can figure out how to control it (letting up on the throttle is not an option).:( :(

The short answer is yes, they could do a nice clean running tune or at the other end of the scale you could cover 4 lanes in soot!, you just tell them what you want and it's all yours.
Also, remember they can also offer an on the fly switching ECM tune for the LLY.

Cheers,
Ross

Is your EGR still plugged in? You obviously have alot more power than me, but it helped w/ the smoke on mine big time. Runs better too.

I run the PPE too and am looking to change for the same reason.

You could use the EFI with some help from some folks around here to correct the PPE tune to be less smokey on your specific truck. I am thinking about doing that since I paid for the PPE and when I invest in EFI I don't want to go with a locked ECM like Moonshine/TTS/Kenedy.

To run at max power, you WILL have some smoke, but I've tried to keep it minimal. Atmospheric conditions and vehicle characteristics will affect this also...

a78turbo's tune in the repository...the one titled "2004??" makes great power and has very very little smoke. I think its a great tune but runs high EGTs like a lot of the other powerful tunes.

Like air filters for instance?

I tried to make my first power tune yesterday and had more smoke than a tire fire. Set some emission codes too. Well back to the drawing board.:D

Why waste time trying to correct the PPE tune, if you own EFILive you are far better off investing the time in building your own tune.

Sounds like your a guy that would like "Moonshine light". Just written for a customer in Las Vegas with the same smoke concerns.

I simply figured it would be easier to make the PPE Hot+2 less smokey than build a suitable tune from scratch given that I have zero experience with tuning.

We all have to start somewhere. The more you play with efi live, the better you will get a tuning...no doubt about it. Do not get frustrated. It takes time and it is worth the payoff. You will build your own perfect tune someday, just keep trying.

Think I will go with a custom tune because I really don't have the time nor the desire to write tunes. I think you tune writers are terrific and should be proud of your tunes.
