A couple of times the truck's starter does NOTHING when I turn the key. This has been when the truck is shut off when hot / fully warmed up. I don't even get a click. The voltage guage drops from 12 V to 9V but nothing happens. Wait a 10 minutes or so and she cranks and starts normally, like nothing ever happened. The battery connections are tight and seem OK. It happened this afternoon in mid 90's temps when I shut off the engine for a few minutes. It seems to be somewhere in the starter or its wiring.
What's your experience been? Ideas where to look first?
Thanks.

It happened to me. My batteries were four years old, replaced them with 1000 amp Exides. Still hot start problems, not very frequent, engine would crank slow. Usually on the third attempt she'ld catch and fire right up. My cables were in pristine condition, stud on the pos terminal, it turned out to be the cable after all. I needed new batteries anyway.....

sounds to me like the starter solenoid is going up. Time to replace the starter, if its only happening at high temps

could be the starter solinoid, or the cables running from the batteries to everwere. you would be surpirsed what corrosion does inside powercables, and it can be anywere in the cables, and if you do replace the cables get a larger size, that way the cables can hold that extra current. and not get warm to the touch.
