: Finally, my tranny holds!
White Duramax 05-08-2004, 06:03 PM Well with a big help from 04forme, we installed the complete ATS upgrades in my transmission last night. My ally looked a lot better inside than I thought it would. Wasnt near as hard and didnt take too long at all. Took us 6 hours start to finish for everthing,(still have a few wires on the co-pilot to install. So far I am very happy with it. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Shifts like it should of out of the factory and accelarates hard!! I would like to thank 04forme, again and also Dmaxallitech and Mike L for the advice. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif Edited by: White Duramax
heartbeatcanada 05-08-2004, 06:38 PM Congrats and let the force be with you. Oh ya, wipe that sh!t eaten grin off, cause i know ya got one, i've been there and the grin is still there. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Kenny is really going to be one of the good ones when it comes to the Allys. He is an enthusiast, he owns a Duramax, he is as anal about things as i am.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif Kenny that was a compliment. Now all i have to do is put him and Joe Webb together. Joe's gona like this kid, I do.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Amric 05-08-2004, 09:42 PM That's great news. Things really get fun once you stop worrying about the Allison. So at 6 hours, I take it you were in a shop with a lift? Lucky.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
04forme 05-09-2004, 12:09 AM Thanks for the compliment Guys! I Thinkhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Hey Raymond, My co pilot seems to be getting better now. I Wonder if it was the State Troopers speeding ticket or the wreckless driving Warning that scared it into workinghttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif. I take it you made it back to Indy last night or should I say this Morning,After Being in my Shop?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Ill let you know when I will tackle mine and you can help,Its not the parts I cant afford its the dang test drive ticketshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gif Later........
White Duramax 05-09-2004, 08:18 PM Yea I made it back fine and the tranny is doing great. Yea, I think it must have been the ticket that got the co-pilot going, glad my co-pilot is working, or maybe it is a bad thing, cause it could give me a nice ticket now without the speed limiter! Let me know when your ready for the hard parts. Amric, yes, 04forme has a tranny shop and we did it on a lift and the tranny on a stand. I would reccomed Kenny for any of you guys that need tranny work done. He is out of New Castle, Indiana.
Yes I do have a sh*t eatin grin, what do you expect!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
heartbeatcanada 05-09-2004, 08:34 PM Raymond- didn't expect anything less. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Now your one step closer to being ready for Munciehttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif.
White Duramax 05-09-2004, 08:43 PM Yea, I finally have the major part done. Now I just need to build some traction bars and a new hitch.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif
White Duramax 05-13-2004, 08:53 PM Update, well I have put several hundred miles on the tranny now and I couldnt be happier. With the co-pilot off, the shifts are very stock like, now turn the co-pilot on and say byby de-fuel. I went to the track the other night, with the co-pilot in race mode and t/h engaged, I couldnt ask for any better shifts. Now all I need is more power!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
D15TUR3ED 05-16-2004, 02:47 PM what is a co-pilot?
Trippin 05-16-2004, 03:42 PM what is a co-pilot?

what is a co-pilot?
Kind of a long story, but if you'll check ATS's web site, that will get you started on what it's about. Look on the left hand side of the page under Transmission for the Co-Pilot upgrade.

Trippin,
Your fingers as well as your truck are faster than mine...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

MaxFarmer 05-16-2004, 04:57 PM Hey white Duramax, How do you get by your speed governor with the co-pilot? I thought you had to program your CPU for that...I have a Co-Pilot on my ATS, but I think it makes my tranny shift too hard, especially into 4th or 5th.... I'd like to know if it really can bypass my speeed gov though!
Thanks,
Jason
Trippin 05-16-2004, 05:06 PM How do you have your Co-Pilot adjusted? Sub level all the way to the right. Base level all the way to the left. These are the settings for soft shifts. I can send you the Co-Pilot instructions if you like. You need to splice the orange and brown wires from the Co-Pilot into the yellow wire coming out of pin 27 on the TCM harness located just to the left of the radiator. Brown wire to the TCM. Orange wire to the harness. Then your speedo will go to 95ish and just hang there as you accelerate past it.
MaxFarmer 05-16-2004, 05:17 PM Thank you very much Trippin! I think I have mine set at sublevel and base levels both to the left. I had it trip my check engine light coming back from ATS to nebraska and I've been kind of afraid to mess with it much. Thanks for the bypass info! I'll be doing it very soon.
Jason
MaxFarmer 05-16-2004, 05:47 PM Also Trippin, What did you use to make the splice? Just plain butt-connectors and heat shrink wrap?
Jason
White Duramax 05-16-2004, 06:53 PM On my splice into the speed sensor wire, I used male and female spades, that way it can be unhooked and hooked back up like factory very easily. Trippin is right, on your main level all the way to the left is soft and all the way to the right is firm. On the sub level all the way to the left brings on firmer shifts with less boost, the more to the right you move this the more boost it takes to bring on the firm shifts.
Trippin 05-16-2004, 11:15 PM Thank you very much Trippin! I think I have mine set at sublevel and base levels both to the left. I had it trip my check engine light coming back from ATS to nebraska and I've been kind of afraid to mess with it much. Thanks for the bypass info! I'll be doing it very soon.

Ditto on the spade connectors. I wanted to be able to remove it in the future for a trip to the dealer if need be.
You were driving back from ATS? Did they do the install?
MaxFarmer 05-17-2004, 10:31 AM Yes, ATS did the install for me. I thought about doing it, but for something as important as the tranny, I thought I'd leave it to the people who work with them all the time. The fiance and I took an extended weekend ski trip and I dropped my truck off on Thurs. morning and they arranged so I could pick her up Sunday afternoon. Things were a little edgy for a while (the woman didnt think she was going to get back to nebraska) when it was still learning, but now 3 months later I couldnt be much happier!
Thanks again for the connection/bypass ideas! I dont know where I'd be without this site!
Jason
MaxFarmer 05-17-2004, 07:12 PM Apparently ATS must have done the wiring for the speed gov. when it was there.... There are the orang and brown wires going into the yellow wire of the TCM. BUT, I am sure that the one time that I ran my truck that fast it still kicked out at 95 (103 with my 285's according to the attitude monitor). Do I still need a predator or something to get rid of it? Otherwise, it looks like I may be heading out for a "Test Drive" yet tonight....
Jason
White Duramax 05-17-2004, 09:16 PM I believe your speedometer will stop at 95 but you will still be accelerating and going faster. I havent really tested mine yet.
MaxFarmer 05-17-2004, 09:29 PM I just went out and did a run...I'm very disappointed.. I have a g-tech pro and it seems that after 2nd gear, my hp and tq dropped. You could feel the truck kind of like "stall out". Almost like a defuel... and my EGT's were running pretty hot... Maybe its the humid weather right now.... I'm tryin to get my g-tech graphs up somehow for advice... And, my 1st run it seemed to top out at 107 and my speed alarm on juice went off....I cranked it up to 135 on the next run but the truck stalled out at 102..... Really got me wondering...

Here it is, first pass. Second pass is pretty close to this... Look at the 5 second mark... it did this at both runs... I'd say at the shift to 3rd... Any ideas?

Trippin 05-17-2004, 10:49 PM Tow haul mode? When did you think the converter locked? How long since the fuel filter was changed?
MaxFarmer 05-18-2004, 12:11 AM I ran tow/haul on the first run, not on the second run. I didnt check on the torq convertor...its the first time I've done a 4-HI launch in a long time and I've gained a few ponys since then and 4 spinning wheels kinda gets your attention quick... I changed my fuel filter 5k miles ago. I guess I could start there...my MEGA has about the same amount on it also.
Jason
Trippin 05-18-2004, 12:41 AM I was wondering if the hp dropped on the graph due to the torque converter locking and the torque multiplication dropping to 1:1. But you felt the thing sort of defueling so let's move on to the next theory.
Without a lift pump, the additional filtering could be creating more restriction in the system, she could just plain be running out of fuel.
Can you redisplay the the plots with RPM as the horizontal data.
MaxFarmer 05-18-2004, 10:03 AM Here's the graphs with RPM. I think they show a good representation, but I know I'm not hitting the 5,000 RPM like it shows. I imagine the G-tech wasnt meant to read RPM's off of diesels accurately... It looks to me like it almost defueled before shifting with tow-haul on but not with it off.... You may be right about the Torq convertor after looking closer, but I still think a lift pump may be next in line. My MEGA catches a LOT of air, I have to bleed it off ever fill up.

Should I adjust the Copilot down a little? I adjusted it to the way you said earlier for my normal driving and I could tell a little difference, then I turned both levels the opposite way (sub left, base right) for the run. I'm waiting on Kennedy to get his lift pump setup good and going and I think that'll be next on my list.
Thanks for your help and opinions!
