Skeptical as I may be, there seems to be a strong potential for this thing. I'm not so sure that I like the way the nipple orients, and a simple coupling nut/turnbuckle would be nice, but it does seem to hold in nicely. I had an OE unit with a turnbuckle in it and had it cranked up quite a bit. It would hit 34 peak, but seemed to drop off and drift a lot. The Banks seems to hold closer to 34psi much better. I only had a few runs on it to test, and I need to clear the orifice in my back psi gauge so I can read that again, but it looks promising!
I did a quick and VERY crude test with an air hose to compare the two, and found that at pressures lower than what it took to fully extend the unit (they bot bottom in the 45psi-ish range) the OE unit would bounce on extension. In other words, extend, retract, extend whereas the Banks would hold steady.
It will be a bit, but I do intend to map the boost out on the dyno. Just need to get my PSI and EGT panels in and installed...

Interesting! Do you think one would do anything for a stock engine? I assume stock with no smoke that means no excess fuel unburnt so no need for more boost/air.

I need to run it some more and see.
Someone else may have run one on a stocker and have firsthand experience. The "bobble" thing kind bothers me although without a wastegate position sensor, it is pretty hard to know what goes on.
There is also a ton of flex in the WG bracket both stock and Banks that would sure seem to make it hard to tune...

Kennedy would there be any benefit to a 6.6 with just an edge juice. other than maintaining pressure?

Wow, great minds think alike! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Wink.gif The two suggestions I made to Peter T. from Banks at the LA Dyno Day in Feb. Stronger bracket to prevent flex and an adjuster built into the shaft.
The install/adjustment on an 03 with EGR is an absolute......shall we say..... adventure!
BTW...... I've got mine at 12 turns past neutral.

Have you did any testing to determine if there is more or less power at higher then stock boost?
I am interested in knowing if there is any benifit to messing with the waste gate.
I have run completly stock waste gate sense I distroyed the first turbo. For some reason it wouldn`t hold up to 47.3 PSI (according to the X-Monitor, which may not be an accurate reading)

Yep! Super Flow dyno in Feb. It did become a point of diminishing return on HP. It picked up torque with each increase in boost but got to a point where it lost peak HP.

I haven't been on the dyno since installation.
I will say, that it SEEMS to help the lower RPM ranges more than upper. I'll check with my "follower" from my smoke show Friday night, but it seems to me that I just got a steady cloud. Now with the Big Head, it seems to clean up at the bottom of each gear leaving breaks in the cloud. Also boost drops as RPM increases which could be overwhelming of the exhaust side, or compressor capacity issues, OR just the wastegate opening with a moderate rise in back psi.
Until I get my psi EGT, and analog panels installed on my dyno, I'm just making casual observations.
One thing remains: pinch the wastegate hose and you will see 60+ psi of drive pressure (my gauge stops at 50) with MINIMAL gain in boost from a wastegate already tuned to approx 34 psi peak...

Would you happen to know what the magic number is? The factory is right at about 23.5 psi.
I would be interested in something like the Banks Bighead if it did not allow boost to climb to high as did the PowerMax waste gate replacement hose.Edited by: hdmax
