I was wondering if anyone new why the brakes on a tractor (farm) would lock up after a couple hours of use?

Thanks for helping,

Jason

What kind of tractor are we talking about here?

Opps,
I have a Massey 65 the year should be around 58,59.

I was baling hay and the right side brakes started to grab and aventually locked up enough to skid the right side tire.
Thanks

Are you sure it is not an unconscious mashing of the right petal with your right foot caused by a learned reflex movement from driving a Duramax??

Not familure with that tractor, but is there any sort of automatic adjuster that wasn't reassembled properly? Can dust from bailing get into the brakes?

You might want to check the linkage going from the pedal back to the brakes to make sure everything stayed tight and that the adjuster didn't vibrate loose and apply itself.

I know that Ford tractors of the same vintage have a cam lock on the back of the brake arm that when flipped backwards and the brake is applied, will act as an emergency brake. So I agree with farmerk check the linkage and make sure there is no cam lock or pawl lockin up.

Oh man I cant remember what I did to fix one of these, exact problem. IIRC it is pretty easy to take the brake assembly apart, just take it off and look everything over and clean it

If they are hydraulic make sure the vavle is good that sends fluid to the Brake. It may have gotten stuck in the OPEN position send fluid to the brake even though not stepping on the pedal.
